USB Hub recommendations ??

Post by gtburgin »

Im looking to buy a powered USB hub (a cheap one if possible) just to attach the MJ to a laptop. I dont need one with lots of ports or any fancy features. Anyone have recommedations on ones that have proven to work and those to avoid??
Thanks for any advice.

Too bad that 4 port USB hub is sold out now, bummer.
Will have to wait.

Someone on the DSLR MagicJack forum recommended this IOGear. It's a little more expensive. Not quite as heavily endorsed as the hub sold by Wind River (evidently someone who uses MJ too).

The Wind River guy was also recommended as being very helpful. "Isleblue" posted in the rants/raves (or reviews) forum that he got some help from that guy over some confusion about the hub's status lights. He praised him for spending so much time on such a bargain product. It could be useful to wait and patronize him if that sort of stuff is important to you. (As a MagicJack user, I think we're all deficient in principles.).

Regarding that IOGear alternative, I saw the following comment
in a user review.

"Device Manager, in Windows, reveals this product to consist of one 4-port hub that is internally attached to one of the ports of another 4-port hub. This leaves 7 free ports total. Iogear advertises this as one 7-port hub, which is slightly misleading, so beware of this. Running connections through multiple hubs, in some situations, might slightly degrade performance, just so you know. "
