Screech
Screech: Short burst of sound during a conversation that is sporadic both in incoming and outgoing calls. I've had this since July and tech chat has not been able to solve the problem.
The screech is loud and annoying as it happens throughout a conversation.

This has only happened to me once, try lowering your mic and speaker volumes on MJ's menu tab, also could be your router, try to run a speed test on your internet connection, your not running this on a dial up modem are you? possibly a program you are using at the same time as your MJ causing noise.
please post your specs dsl/cable and what pc and os

sligg,
In addition to what George has already said; I have experienced that from time to time but mostly at the start of a conversation. The only thing I get occasionally during a conversation is what sounds like the tone of a key press, sometimes the other party hears it sometime they don't.
The MagicJack Java Fix-it program on their WEB site will set your volume levels to what they think is best. My observation is changing them does very little if anything so I set mine to just a little bit above zero gain. It may be my imagination but I do believe it helps eliminate at least some of the occasional strange noises. By the way I do this for the headset and telephone volumes on the soft phone and use my telephone handset or Blue tooth headset to set the volume I find comfortable.
I know this post does not provide much help, but to let you know that your are not completely alone. And that I do believe that Magic Jack is working on some of these issues because for me it seems to come and go like some of the features you see on the user WEB site from time to time. They appear to be doing a lot of work in the background and hold off making it available in small pieces to the public. I find that a strange approach, I personally think they would make the little conquest available as they develop them but they don't seem to work that way. So every morning when I fire up the system I keep expecting to see a big green "Lucky You" and receive some miraculous upgrade (call me an optimist).

I just comented about this same thing on another thread. I am having the same thing as you a screetch is what you called it and I called it a spike it comes in loud and scares the crap out of you when it happens.
It kills your conversation and then goes back normal. If anyone finds a fix I would be intersted. My computer is in standby and low power sleep so no programs are running and hard drives are not active. Thanks

most likely your mj is using the nashville proxy but you might want to check to be sure.
go into your hosts file and set the nashville proxy to another proxy address.
Sorry don't have time to go into much more detail right now as I have to head off to work, but everything I've mentioned can be find else on the forum, esp. in tips & tricks...
good luck! I won't be back on for probably a day.
