People cant hear my voice via MJ

Post by amru »

I am not sure if this is a repeat thread, if it is apologies and someone can point me to the solution.

I have tried using my cellphone and I can hear the incoming audio very well but zero audio outgoing. Tried a few things like changing USB ports, reboot of PC and router and modem and uninstall of Jukebox software and also the USB power setting in the PC. Nothing has worked so far.

My set-up
- Dell XPS Laptop 1.8GHZ, 2GB RAM
- Using speedtest upload speed of 2.8 GB/s and download of 3.8GB/s
- Belkin Wireless Router for internet connection
- I have a dell power utility on my PC and it says that it supplies 500mA to each USB and is showed that magic jack needs 500mA, not sure how reliable it is. It showed that my wireless mouse and keyboard needed 100mA only. I have 4 USB inputs of which I use 3 including MJ
- To ensure it is not a handset or power to handset problem, i have been testing with a wired headset to my PC.

Any advise on what else I can do.

I have read a lot things can be done but I am not sure what will help my case.

Any help in getting my MJ working will be great ..will save a lot of money for me :D

You need to rerun the speed test. There is no way you are getting 2.8 GB/s.

Is it actually 2.8 mbps? (2800 kbps)

For reference GB is giga byte, mb is mega bit.
Upper case is byte, lower case is bit.

Did you go into the softphone menu->headset/volume control? Make sure the microphone volume is turned up?

You said it is the same whether you use a headset or handset. If that's true, the next thing I might try is removing the router and connect directly to the modem. Just to see if it's a problem with the router. (Be aware this can expose you to bad things if you don't use a software firewall and/or do it for too long.).

You could also try changing the proxy MJ connects to. It could be a problem specific to the proxy you connect to by default. How to do it is described on the wiki FAQ.

I did play with the volume control under "Menu" and that has not helped. Although I did drop the firewall for test once, I will try hard-wiring to the router and verify.

And I have been trying with a headset only, have not tried at all with any handset.

Usually people have problems like this with a handset, and using a headset doesn't have the problem. That's when the problem is often due to an underpowered USB port. But, your situation sounds like the reverse. I don't think a handset would fix it. But, it would be worth a try.

Try bypassing the router. And, try changing your proxy.

There are also some sound devices in your settings->control panel->audio/sound devices (whatever it's called). Some people have cured audio problems there. But, I think it's usually a problem with them hearing the incoming sound, not others hearing the outgoing sound.

I have no explaination but my MJ started working as if by "magic" last night. I only restarted by PC :)

Sound is very very good, I tested a little bit by calling a few people and using my PC Headset. Now over to connection a handset. If that works MJ rocks !!!
