I read the other posts about what to do but I am completely lost.
I have linksys WRT54G version 2.2.
I would appreciate an explanation in the most basic terms that I would understand how to correct the problem short of replacing my router.
Thanks,
Brian

1. See if there is a new firmware for your router on the Linksys product page.chiroot wrote:I read the other posts about what to do but I am completely lost.

2. See if you can flash your router to the open source Tomato or DD-WRT firmwares. (You get additional benefits, such as QoS features to improve your sound quality).
3. There has been one unconfirmed report that you can use "tcpview" (google for it) to see the port that the magicjack.exe process is connected to on your router. When you see that port, go into your router's administration page and open (or forward) that port to the IP address of the computer MagicJack is running on.
This is confusing because you're really forwarding an external port to the LAN computer. But, it's not really an external connection. It's an internal connection (from your computer to the router). Opening (or fowarding) that port causes the NAT translation on the router to become unconfused (apparently).
The downside to this is that you have to do this every time you start MagicJack because the port changes.
Identifying that port can be challenging because it's ambiguous. It's a port value that repeats multiple times. In the range of 30000 to 60000.
4. If you can't cope with that, open all the UDP ports from 10000 to 60000. But, you're exposing your LAN to all the bad things that can happen on the wide-area internet. You need to run software firewalls on all your computers, etc.
The ideal solution is to fix the router (upgrade or replace firmware, or replace the router).
