MagicJack does not terminate the call properly

Post by LikeMagic »

When the far-end party hangs up the call:

- 90% of the times, my MJ phone remains silence (for a long time) and the call timer (on the display) keeps incrementing as if the far-end party is still connecting.
- 10% of the times, I hear continuous dial-tone when the far-end party hangs up the call (this is normal).

How does your MJ behave?

LikeMagic,

Gosh I am embarrassed again, I don't know what mine does. I always just hit the end call button on my phone and eventually place it back in the cradle.

But the next time I use it this evening I will definitely pay more attention and post back my findings.

Question: Does this scenario you describe cause any problems or is it just strange behavior that you are concerned about?

On POTS service, when the far-end party hangs up the call first, after about 2-8 seconds, your POTS phone will start playing announcement "please hang up the phone" (a few times) and if you don't hang up the phone the PSTN central office will begin playing the nasty & loud high frequency tones to remind you (the absent-minded person) to hang up the phone.

MagicJack doesn't seem to play any nasty "reminder" tones to remind you to hang up the phone, thus the phone is still "off-hook", and new incoming calls would ring silently and after a few rings would redirect to voicemail. Try it with your MagicJack and let me know if yours is different.

This is another BIG issue and hopefully MJ will implement a fix soon.

I have the same problem too. sometimes hitting "off" twice on my cordless works, and its the same with the softphone.
Morpheus: What is "coming soon"? How do you define "coming soon"?
