Exiting MagicJack / powered USB setup

I'm trying to follow the wiki explanation of setting up a shortcut to Exit MagicJack but it's not working, maybe someone can help me out.

The instruction says create the shortcut and in the "Location" field insert the 4 lines of text. My shortcut field is not accepting the text. How can I complete this?

I'm just trying to set up a powered USB and don't want to "just pull out" the dongle (when I try to safely remove hardware it says it's in use).

Are you right clicking the shortcut, and choosing properties? (I didn't mention that in the how-to.).

Yes, and there's only a one-line field to input text (FAQ has 4 lines).

Ok. Those for lines are comment, real command to enter, comment, real command to enter.

So, you'd look at the comments, pick which one applies to you, and copy/paste the command below the comment. Just one line.

right, now I understand thanks.

Once I double-click to exit the softphone, I can then remove the dongle with safely remove hardware, plug-in my powered usb hub and then plug back in the MJ dongle into the hub. Is that the right procedure?

I think so.

If it still says in use, I think it will be safer to unplug it because you stopped magicjack.exe which opens the flash drive on the MJ USB device once every 3 seconds (for write). You'll have a better chance of the flash drive being closed, buffers flushed, etc. Less chance of corruption.

But, hopefully "safely remove" will work.

Still didn't work. So then I tried using Unlocker to detect which processes were holding up the drive - sure enough I found a file that was holding it up. Unlocker took care of it and I could safely remove the MJ drive.

Now trying to test if quality is any better using a powered USB hub, don't hear a difference yet though....

A powered USB hub will likely not help your voice quality. What it will do is boost the REN capacity of the MJ, so that the MJ can ring more phones when you receive an incoming call.

Ok understood. But isn't it safer to have it in a hub anyway? If the MJ is going to fry a USB port, I'd rather it be in the hub than my motherboard.

There have been quite a few reports of a powered USB hub improving voice quality in the sense of low volume, other person can't year you, or you can't hear other person. But, it only seems to be if someone's using a handset. A hub doesn't seem to affect softphone use.

In fact, there was one guy with a very strange problem where he said he could call US numbers and people heard him (perhaps faintly). But, calling internationally they couldn't hear him. Almost like distance made it worse. He used a powered USB hub and the problem disappeared.

I agree that I can't imagine a situation where using a powered hub could introduce any problem, but I didn't think of the TigerJet chip not receiving enough power to drive the voice path well. I suppose that it's because this is the first TigerJet device I have encountered that has other stuff under the hood, namely the U3 memory module. It is also possible that the MJ engineers didn't pay attention to power optimization during their pursuit of cost minimization.
