Mine is set at fax speed is fast and error correction is on. Since i first posted I looked back at some older posts and they say I should have fax speed set at slow and error correction off, but mine is working and I'm leaving it alone. Hope this info helpsMOA wrote:Kevin,kevin8629 wrote:been sending and receiving faxes on my hp4215 with np. Guess I didn't realize it was a problem.. I'm still new here though and just getting through the posts
this was the first I tried so did not know it was working on HPs ...
what are your setting?
out of the box?

Fax transmission failures are almost exclusively caused by buffer underruns. The packetized fax page gets waylaid along its route, packets get lost or delayed, and the receiving fax machine loses synchronization with the sending fax machine's transmission. This is an unavoidable consequence of using the public internet as the transport layer.
All of the tips here are geared to minimize the chances of these underruns. That's why we try lowering the speed to 9600bps (or less, if you can), so the receiving end's VoIP interface has a better chance of receiving subsequent packets prior to sending out the last few bytes of the previous packets. It's also why we try turning off error protection at the receiving end, so that the receiving fax machine will wait longer before declaring a transmission dead.
If you are having success at "fast" and "with error correction", there are a few possibilities that do not involve voodoo that are contributing to your success. First, your fax machine may only have a top speed of 9600bps. Second, the other fax machines you communicate with may only have a top speed of 9600bps. Third, you may be sending or receiving fax pages with a lot of white space. Pages with white space are considerably "smaller" than pages with dense printing and/or pictures, which aids in ensuring that all of that page's packets will get through before they are processed at the destination gateway.
Whatever it is that is giving you success, though, your philosophy is solid. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

mberlant makes a lot of sense with his explanation, I had noticed that some faxes were not getting thru and wondered why.. Yep
lowered the speed, turned off Error Correction, now, all of them get thru.. at least 99%. this is not recent stuff for me.. I did all this a year ago and didn't go into detail explaining because I just figured that everyone would read the posts that I had read making these changes and it would do the magic that was needed.. I haven't had an issue with Faxing in so long I cant remember the last..
Now, I am faxing all the senators about the things that piss me off, Like gun bans, stimulus packages, and pretty much the fact that Obama is in the White house
.. Free faxing.. Kicks Butt!!

And, I'll admit, I'll be faxing about the same things.
Sorry, I veered off topic a little. But what I'm trying to say is that I'll be using this technical information to save the planet.
