cannot install MJ

firstly im sorry if this is a repeat topic and thank you to anyone who helps in advance.

im trying to install a registered MJ for my friends dad in here in bombay.

The config that he has is a P4 2.6 GHz with 700MB odd RAM.
The internet is cable.its pretty fast.

The first time i connected the jack, it took about 30 minutes for the first screen to come on. nothing else would work in the interim. i downloaded the upgrade software and ran that. same thing. i would eventually get the dialler and and even if i dialled a number it would take about 5 min to dial.Once i did manage to get through and have a conversation, but then it stopped. after restart, MJ software would not come on and if i double clicked on the shortcut, it woud say MJ not connected.

I have done the following.
I have installed a new PCI to USB card just in case the USB was the problem. same effect.

I have removed all programs that i thought were a problem, webshots, all messengers, and antivirus
I have run hijackthis and i think no major problem there

Is there a minimum RAM requirement. i cant seem to find that answer though i have looked only for a little time i confess.

I have run it on a faster PC at my home and the installation was a whiz..30seconds for initial install and the phone worked like it should.

any suggestions anyone. i want to help out my buddys parents as they would love to be able to talk to him without worrying about cost.
