What does Dan need to do to make this thing PERFECT???
OK, well I FINALLY saw the MJ Infomercial this morning 2/3/08 after hearing about the infomercial from family/friends who *I* told about MJ.
I saw Dan, his wife, his kids etc. etc. etc.
I am going to help Dan out one more time (evidently for free ) with his little invention.
This may summarize this whole forum.
What does Dan need to do MOST to make this thing PERFECT? Vote in the poll and talk about it ... would love to hear about it.
(Unfortunately these Polls cannot allow multiple choice so you must choose ONE -- red or green pill Neo).

Add more area code will perfect...!!!!!!!!!
If Dan add the Puerto Rico area code 787, I am sure will sell 1 millon more Magicjack this year, maybe more, just here in PR.
787 and 939 is Puerto Rico area code

Actually, I was very surprised the other day when I tested a call to PR and it worked. (I know it was supposed to, but there was some time during 2007 it did not work).

I think he needs to fulfill the promise of "never pay a monthly phone bill again". Which to me means not only do we need more area codes, we need more cities within those area codes so everyone can have a local number for incoming calls. I just saw a list of new area codes coming and saw that my area code of 803 would be included BUT my city was not included which means that my MOM would still have to pay LD charges to call me if not for the Grand Central service. She has no computer, no internet therefore NO Magicjack (and I don't think that at 80+ years of age she's gonna start soon). I really don't want to pay for a separate incoming line and would like for this device to serve me both ways. I know that the cost is low enough now that it pays for itself very quickly, still I think that you can't fulfill that promise until many more incoming numbers are available. As of now the Magicjack, Grand Central and the CID spoofer are workable but I'd like to one day be able to change my number to a local number so that ANYONE can call me (magicjack or not)with no problems or expense incurred.

I believe MJ is working on getting BYOD as we're running this poll I envision that MJ will eventually come out with MJ ATA device like this one
[dream on]
If the "future" MJ-ATA device is also selling for $39.95 then I would definitely get a few
[/dream off]

Cool, but no thanks. Just as the article says "What we are looking for is a higher REN value rather than smaller and smaller ATA's. Are u guys listening???"LikeMagic wrote:I believe MJ is working on getting BYOD as we're running this poll I envision that MJ will eventually come out with MJ ATA device like this one

I would settle/prefer your standard everyday "previously hot/now defunct VOIP company" ATA for $20, thank you very much.

That particular Patton VOIP ATA has 3REN (can ring up to 3 standard phones) vs 5REN as provided by your typical landline phone company. This is not really an issue as you could use multi-handset single base phone system that requires only 1 single phone jack connection. If you add 3 sets of 4-handset single base phone systems (total 12 handsets) to this ATA, you'd have more than enough phones to be used around your big mansion

Yeah, I know ... call me a bit old school (and paranoid) all you want.LikeMagic wrote:That particular Patton VOIP ATA has 3REN (can ring up to 3 standard phones) vs 5REN as provided by your typical landline phone company. Around my mansion (esp. when talking to all my "MagicChix" via the MagicJack when they have ATA support) ... I would need to run it via corded phone ... for the most security. All those phones, in all those rooms, require lots of REN.
It is not always the newest technology that is the best technology.

If I could of checked more than one:
- Improve Incoming/Outgoing Call Reliability (i.e., connection success, 800# issues, etc.)
Improve MJ Setup/Install Reliability
Address any VMail issues (how about the ability to totally turn off voicemail!)
Support ATAs
Add the International Dialing (this now moot!)
Add a Referral Program (so WE can get paid as well)
Give everyone in this Forum FREE MJs (for being guinea pigs/giving free Tech Support) [we can dream can't we]
Provide REAL Tech Support (i.e., MJ=the only phone company w/o a phone #) [Luckily I haven't had to deal with this yet, but would be nice to know it's there]
Provide doc/API to add scripting or run as Service (though I doubt if many users would use this)
Morpheus: What is "coming soon"? How do you define "coming soon"?

How about quit running misleading commercials telling us MJ will save us hundreds a year. not eating would save us thousands a year but if we did that we would be dead in a couple of weeks. basically MJ wants us to buy their product and in the process tells us to eliminate our phone company. but then when we buy the MJ they want us to limit our usage of the service.

The biggest thing MJ could do is make their USP* match their service. By selling it to the mass consumer market, they are no seriously out of sync with truth in advertising laws.
When I bought in May 2008, I did the research needed to understand its limitations and made a value judgement to buy it in spite of its warts.
But if someone buys it at Walmart, they are going to be upset about the inability to use this as your only phoneline and the technical and area code limitations.
* Unique Selling Proposition
(I voted for ATA support.)

No Vote for Me...
Good morning.
I didn't vote since my choice doesn't appear. However, if the choice was there, I'd vote for abolition of the call caps.

lcompton: Good point; the poll was started over a year ago before that issue even existed. Unfortunately, I can't seem to add any choices to it at this point. (Notice the "add the international dialing" choice, for example).lcompton wrote:Good morning.

Re: No Vote for Me...
Good evening, testing123.
By-the-way, nice user ID. Testing...1...2...3... LOL
Oh, wow. I didn't even realize this was an old poll. Sorry. I really need to read the dates on these things.testing123 wrote:lcompton: Good point; the poll was started over a year ago before that issue even existed. all the other additions wouldn't amount to a hill of beans if the ONE MOST IMPORTANT thing isn't changed FIRST
Improve Call Quality
what's all the other choices matter if the call sounds like crap, with sputter, beep tones, crackel, echo, missed words form lost data flow ... etc
sometimes it works well, but not all the time, even with my ISP giving 15MB download and 2.5MB upload speeds... so, it's the MJ servers themselves slowing down when more people are using it.
Late in the night, early morning it seems better, but during "prime-time" like 6: PM to maybe around 11: PM very choppy sound
during 2: PM to around 5: PM a little better but still sputter sometimes, but later at night and almost earlier in the morning hours it's better, so it's MJ's bandwidth not being able to keep up with demand.
Forget the ATA idea, they're basing their company on ads and won't allow that to change, it needs a computer to use, and be glad they don't make the window force in-front ... YET! .. the ads haven't started yet either , because they're actually using this forum to iron out the 'BUGS' that makes it unsecure to hacking and not showing the ads, as well as the thing not working at all sometimes ...
And you can't expect dedicated customer service 24/7 for just the $20.00 / year, until the ads start to generate cash in their pockets.
SO... if you really expect they'll give you all the other ideas, before making it sound good first, and stop the hacks, you're dreaming.
I'm using it as a back-up, not as a replacement for my home phone.
Try www.future-nine.com for that.
Their plans start with Pay-as-you-go ... all the way to 3000 in/out free minutes, and calls to SIP is free, and calls to other future-nine numbers are free too... they also allow BYOD and give you your SIP info... and will cloan your account to allow multiple devices.... and let you use Asterisk with your ATA device too!
you can also forward as many numbers you have to the future-nine account to ring your future-nine, and also pick one to be your Caller ID shown #
Their quality of voice sounds like a POTS line working perfectly, but it's over the internet.
Go create a free account, you don't even have to give your real name or info yet, just don't mess about and try to hack them, 'cause they monitor your IP ... .. but you can also change the data you enter later if you like what you see inside, see what you can do with all the features you get.
and ask questions, they love giving pre-sales help.. and after too!.
you can also GOOGLE future-nine.com reviews
check the many sites giving unbiased accounts of how they like it over other VoIP services.
a very good rating, near a perfect 5 star.
How's magicjack lately?
