The magic jack worked great for me the first couple of weeks . . . now my wife wants to throw the ting out. here are the two problems I have been having:
1. Incoming calls drop after 1 minute . . . every time! Without fail when I receive an incoming call the call last exactly 59 seconds and then disconnects. The caller then has to wait 2-3 minutes before they can try to ring back again.
2. When we are not there to answer the phone, the ring never ends. If we are not home and the magic jack receives a call, it continues to ring until the handset is answered. This was I am sure particularly annoying to our neighbors when we left for the weekend once and the phone rang for 72 straight hours. Upon discovering this, I found this happens whether the caller waits for the VM or hangs up after 1 or 2 rings...
FYI, I'm on XP using a Vtech 5.8 cordless phone w/ basestation and 2 handsets.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: incoming call drops - constant ringng
This a problem reported by users of Linksys routers with buggy firmware. See the wiki FAQ: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... connect.3F. There is a short mention of the continuous ringing, and a link to the forum thread where it was discussed.apz wrote:1. Incoming calls drop after 1 minute . . . every time! If that's your problem, your only solution is to make sure you have the latest Linksys firmware, and/or flash it with an open source firmware (Tomato, DD-WRT), or replace the router. Or, disable your router's firewall (place the router in the DMZ).
One person reported a kludge to fix the 30-second disconnect problem. It may work for the continuous ring. It's described on the wiki FAQ too, under the question concerning opening firewall ports.
