)? For the one’s of you that were nice enough to stick around, I have Windows XP Home Edition. I have done everything as told from the sticky at the top of the Tips, Tricks and Hacks forum. Anyway, here's what I did: 1) I Installed MJ, got my number, etc and even made a call. It was working.
2) I ended the MagicJack.exe process from the Task Manager.
3) I ran MSconfig, went to the Startup tab and uncheck cdloader2.exe and clicked OK.
4) I opened My Computer, went to Tools->Folder Options->View Tab and checked “Display the contents of system folders” and “Show hidden files and folders” and unchecked “Hide extension for known files and folders” and “Hide protected operating system files”. My LocalService folder is now viewable. I then went to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data and cut the mjusbsp folder and pasted it in C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data. I noticed my drive for PHONE was “H”
5) I downloaded and ran rktools.exe and installed it in the default location (C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools).
6) I went to start->run->cmd and hit enter. I typed the following:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\instsrv.exe" "MagicJack" "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\srvany.exe"
7) I ran regedit and went to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Services\MagicJack
I did the following: Right click the MagicJack key, choose New>Key, and name it Parameters.
Now in the Parameters key, right click, choose New>String Value, and name it Application.
Double click the Application value and set it to
"C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "H:\magicJack" and yes, I remembered the space after /scf.
I went ahead and rebooted. No problems. When Windows came back up, I noticed the service was running. I waited a few minutes anyway. I picked up the phone and got a dial tone. I started dialing and about halfway through it went back to the dial tone. (I noticed it did the same thing before I did any of this when my computer was either turning off or turning on.) I think it’s just a dial tone to be able to call 911 or something. I ended the service and tried the icon method and it worked fine with the dial menu screen on. Anyway, can anyone see anything that I did wrong? I’m pretty Windows savvy except when it comes to anything beyond it - i.e. registry and command prompt - and hopefully I’m just missing something simple.
