WIll magic Jack work when screensaver password is needed?

Post by bobbyhugo »

We want to use the magic Jack as a home phone for a 14-year-old. And while we want him to be able to use the phone (with magic Jack) we do not want him to be able to access the the Internet on the same computer the the Jack is plugged in to. Will the magic Jack work if the computer is powered off or if the screen saver is active and password protected? This is a make-or-break issue, please help!

It should since the 'user' is logged in and the background processes are still running (including MJ). Why don't you just try it?

I think it should work, but you should probably use a simple screensaver. Some screensavers are rather processor and memory intensive and might cause some problems. But if you use a simple marque or star field type of one I think it should work fine.

Hi,

The simple answer to this is: Yes it will work with a screen saver, and no it will not work if the computer is turned off.

NOTE: You must log in after any reboot of the system

(on second thought... it wasn't so simple an answer :-) )
