RegEdit: Temporary fix for a recurring audio problem.

Post by ttoo »

I my MJ will work fine for a few days and then people on the other end tell me that they can hardly hear me because of a horrible noise. I will apply the "fix" that Mj tech gave me it will "fix" the problem for a few days then the problem returns.
I was hoping one of you MJ gurus could take a look at this problem and the "fix" that MJ tech support has given me. Hoping that you can give me some kind of explanation of what this "fix" is doing and perhaps come up with a permanent solution. Is this something that could be fixed automatically by running a script?

Maggie is the tech person I spoke to today 2.7.08

Veronica is the tech person that originally gave me the "fix".

Maggie: Hello, how may I help you?

T: My MJ has a recurring problem. I'll call someone and the sound quality is good on my end but is horrible on the other end. Y'all have had me perform the following regedit fix and it works but then a few a days latter the problem returns:

"Please unplug your magicJack. Now go to "Start" in Windows and click on "run". In there write regedit and press enter.

Veronica: Now click on + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE.

Veronica: Click on + sign next to SYSTEM

Veronica: Click on + sign next to CurrentControlSet

Veronica: Click on + sign next to Enum

Veronica: Now find folder called USB. Right click on that and click on "Permissions". In permissions click on the check mark called "Allow" to the right of "Full Control".

Veronica: Click Ok.

Veronica: Now click on + sign next to USB and then find the two folders called "Vid1307", right click on one at a time and select delete.

Veronica: Now click on - Sign next to USB.

Veronica: Right click on Folder called USBSTOR and allow permissions.

Veronica: Now click on + sign next to USBSTOR.

Veronica: Find the folders called "CdRom&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"

Veronica: and "Disk&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"

Veronica: Right click on those one at a time and delete them.

Veronica: Now exit Regedit and then plug your magicJack in."

Maggie: Please wait while I check that for you

Maggie: Please try using a different phone with your magicJack

T: I've done that

Maggie: Have you tried magicfix yet?

T: yes and some kind of upgrade

Maggie: Please go to menu on your magicJack, click headset/volume control and lower the volume for both microphone and speakers to about 1/3 of max.

T: I've done that with no results

T: It was the mj recover I ran not an upgrade

Maggie: Is there any antivirus running in your PC?

T: Yes, in the past I have disabled both firewall and AV it didn't make a difference.

Maggie: May I know the carriers you are calling to?

T: What?

Maggie: Have you tried to call to the same network or from all the network you are facing the same issue?

T: I can call a number one day and every thing is fine then call the same number the next day and the call is bad

Maggie: Please try to call at another number and let us know the results?

Maggie: It may be due to some network problem.

T: When this problem comes back it doesn't matter what number I call the result is poor audio quality on the other end.

T: The only thing that has ever fixed the problem is the regedit fix. That makes me think the problem is with the MJ or the MJ software.

Maggie: Sorry, but you said you have already tried Regedit

T: Not today I've used it 3 times in the past. What I want is a permanent fix.

Maggie: I do apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Maggie: Please try regedit once again to fix the problem.

T: That doesn't fix the problem it just makes it go away temporarily. I should not have to edit my registry every few days to get your product to work correctly.

Maggie: I regret for the inconvenience, please try to fix your problem using regedit. I will discuss your issue with our engineers to fix it permanently from your PC.

Maggie: Thanks for understanding.

T: Will you email me and let me know the results of your conversation or when a permanent fix is available?

Maggie: Please come again in this chat to be able to let you know how to fix it permanently.

T: Thanks

Maggie: You are welcomer

Maggie: welcome*

Basically they are having you remove the magicjack from the registery so that when you plug it back in it will reinstall itself. It seems to me from reading the posts here that reflect conversations people have had with CS, they follow a flow chart that seems to have about 5 basic fixes. If none of them work, or if you push them for answers, they have 2 or 3 ways to get you off the line. The primary one is to tell you to try something that you may or may not have already tried and then to call back again. I hope they are building a list of reproduceable problems that they can have their engineers reproduce in the "Lab" and find fixes for. I'm sure that as new as the MJ is and as many setups there are on the millions of different computers they are hearing problems they have no idea how to fix or even what is causing the problem.

http://www.magicjack.com/site/mac.html

it specifically states that it is for a MAC or OS system but it worked on my windows and others have used it also with success.
I questioned the TNS person three times and she assured me it was good.

It solved a couple issues - one was not starting on boot.

BTW - I accidentally clicked on it again and it installed the update again and when it finished it said it is "now usable on both OS and Windows".

That info should be on the start page not the finish page
