T5710 won't boot from USB

I was trying to get my T5710 to boot from a LG usb DVD/CD drive. I set the boot sequence to usb-usb-usb. Now the system won't boot from the usb cd/dvd. It won't boot from the usb key key either. I just get a non-system disk error.

The real problem is that it does not respond to the <F10> key during the bootup sequence so I can't reset the boot sequence.

I set it to usb-usb-usb because I thougt that maybe the usb dvd/cd was not waking up quick enough and trying to boot from the dvd/cd three times might give it the time it needed. It looks like this caused an irrecoverable problem.

Has anybody seen a problem like this. Any suggestions?
I have two more thin clients that can be used if components from them could help me unwind what I did.

Is there a way to reset the bios to factory without the key board?
A switch inside maybe. Would taking the battery out do it?

I tried removing the battery for 30 minutes and it appears that the bios was reset to defaults when I put the battery bck in and powered up the unit.

you just need to change the first one to USB boot, and leave the other ones at "Flash Drive" and "Network" .. making all three USB doesn't give it any second or third device other than USB to boot from. I think you know that now ...

by the way - removing the battery for several seconds is enough too.

The USB booting works, I used it on my T5710, before HP sent me a T5730 in exchange for it, because of the troubles I had with the T5710, but even on both units, i was able to boot to my CD-ROM DRIVE (HP 8200+) to install FULL XP Pro, and also have all the EWF HP files to stop drive writes, and be able to boot up into a clean XP, as I left it before shutting down.

I also made a DOS booting USB Flashdisk (win98 DOS) on my 256Meg Flash Drive and also created a bootable SDHC Class-6 , 8GB memory card, and use my Card reader to boot with it, USB

I think I can create a CDFS on it too and partition it for CDFS and RAM storage... something needed by all, I'm sure! ... it may allow booting a CD Image from your FlashDrive or memory cards... and have some RAM storage for files and such too!

I have a 16GB Sandisk Curzer to play with, for this very purpose.
Sandisk seems to have a CDFS on part of the Flash RAM too, but it's not the "normal" CD file system, as the magicjack dongle is...

I was able to make an Image of that section of Flash RAM and have another CD emulating software (daemon tools) boot the magicjack from it, so I know the Image was correct.

I'm going to try changing that image, using Image changing software to put another CD Image in its place, like GHOST v9.02, and see if I can boot into GHOST from the Flash Drive, or memory card/reader combo.

I'm also thinking of another way to do this, without using a CDFS partition.

I also found that by actually removing the power input connector rather that just using the on/off button I was able to get them to boot when they otherwise would not.

I can't be sure then whether it was removing the battery or unplugging the unit that fixed my problem since I certainly unplugged it when I took the cover off to get to the battery.

I have one unit that has this issue -- a T5710 PT705AT#ABA with the latest firmware -- the only one out of a bunch of T5710's, T5700's, T5500's.

It simply will not boot from the USB after certain shutdown conditions ... until you unplug the power for a second, plug back in and it works. You will see "Updating ESCD ... Success" message as it is booting and this is when it will again boot from USB.

PS: Doesn't matter what type of USB device whether CD, Flash, HD, etc it will fail until the power is plugged out and back in.

I thought it was an isolated problem with one of my T5710's. I have two T5710 and in setting one up, it wouldn't boot from the USB key. I pulled the other unit out instead. After about 1/2 hour, I went back to the first one out of curiousity, and it booted from the usb key. Seems I can get it to boot several times, then it gets tired and won't boot until it's had a rest.
