My MJ works great on my desktop, which runs on XP Pro.
I've tried to load it onto my laptop, which runs on Vsita home premium. Yesterday I spent about two
hours on MJ tech help.
The MJ is plugged into a powered USB port. Plenty of memory on the laptop. Very fast DSL.
The blue light comes on. At first the audio on the laptop went out. When we did magicfix, the
last two items were red -- audio and recognizing the MJ.
We added the Vista software fix and also the Mac software fix (which the tech said was okay).
We got the audio problem fixed so the audio on the laptop no longer goes out when the MJ
is plugged in.
The MJ acts like it's loading -- the "patience" screen and the "tell your friends" screen. But
every time we get the red text that says the MJ has to be plugged in.
Tried reloading the software and still nothing.
The tech finally gave up and said he had to have the engineers figure it out and
get back to me.
Anyone have any suggestions and/or ideas. We've rebooted the laptop many times.
Thanks much.

BrianScott2000,
The first item the two red X(s) you get. I am assuming you mean the last two test items on their Fix-it site.
1. Are you running Live One Care?
2. There is only two ways I know of to allow the Fix-it to run. A. Turn off the Auto Protect mode in your browser. B. Put the Fix-it page in your trusted sites and don't require HTTPS only HTTP.
That will allow the Fix-it to run to completion, remember it is a Java application and M$, One Care, and IE7 don't trust aggressive Java apps. So open it up like I have suggested and everything should be OK as far as Fix-it goes.
Now for the "You have to Plug it in crap". Well on second thought lets get the first piece working and then we/us can tackle this part.
PS - get the first piece first is actually a stall for time while I think of a clever solution or someone comes along with the solution.

Update on Problem
First, I really appreciate your help!
Here's where we now stand --
1. I disabled my firewall and virtually all security stuff.
2. I added www.magicjack.com as an allowable site in IE.
3. I lowered all of the security settings in IE.
Then plugged MJ into the laptop. Got the "tell your friends" and "one minute..." screens a number
of times. Then got the red: WARNING: You must plug MJ into USB (even though it already is)
Then I went directly to the Magicfix and it was able, for the first time, to run all of the diagnostics.
I got the green check mark next to all 7 tests.
Then clicked on the "if you are still having problems" and it loaded the Mac OS upgrade, which
loaded successfully. Followed the directions to unplug and replug in the MJ and got the same red
error response.
I then wnet through an upgrade screen on the MJ support page. It says the software was upgraded.
Tried again and got the same error.
Even though the computer says my MJ is for vista (previously upgraded), I went through that
step again.
Same error message.
I've tried different usb ports. They all seem to recognize MJ and the blue light goes on, but
keep getting the "Warning" message.
I also tried going to the my computer page which shows my disk drives and MJ is shown there
in the vista form. Double clicked on that and the mj image appeared on the screen but
got the same error response.
I also have a mj icon on my desktop. I right clicked on that and tried to run it from as
an administrator -- same response.
Any additional suggestions?
Thanks again!!

One More Thing
I am running Windows One Care, but i think i disabled it. Should i deinstall it?
BrianScott2000,
I also run Live One Care, so I don't think that is your problem.
Do you have any Creative media player installed on your machine? I have heard they can cause a problem and I know from personal experience it doesn't like Rhapsody.
You might want to uninstall any of these if you have them and then give it ago.
Let me know if that is part of your problem.
Also take a look in your device manager and see if you have any warnings. MJ installs several devices when you plug it in. It is possible that if one is hung up you may have to uninstall them and then let MJ reinstall them now that you have it all updated.
PS - Your very welcome for what little help I can be. What we need is someone like DigitalNomand or 123Testing to jump in here they are among the really experienced MJ people on this forum (my apologies to the other resident experts I left out, and there are several).

Here's The Latest!
Ok, I've deleted Rhapsody along with any other music type program.
I went through the entire device manager and everything looked ok.
I've reset my cable modem, my router and my PC.
I've loaded and reloaded the MJ, magicfix, the Mac upgrade, the vista upgrade, etc.
It goes through the entire magicfix check and all are showing green.
The Max upgrade says its loading properly.
The blue light on the mj is on.
But I still keep getting the red warning -- mj must be plugged in.
And it still runs great on my PC with XP.
I'm wondering if many people are running MJ on Vista Home Premium without any
problems.
I know my USB ports are 2.0 and powered.
The laptop has 2gb memory.
Really weird.
Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Brian,
Did you look in the device manager to make sure all the MJ devices are installed correctly - if they are not you should see a Yellow ? or ! if you see any list them back here and we can fix them one at a time. Oops just saw that you did this sorry I missed it.
There is one other thing you can try in vista and that is to delete the file called C:\windows\inf\infcache.1
But lets talk before you go ahead with any of this stuff. OK
I just PMed you if you want to contact me directly - if nothing else we should be able to go thru the problems a whole lot quicker and then post our results back here for others to see.
