Problems using MJ with Cordless Phone

Post by cosmo2009 »

Hi, folks.

I have a VTech CS5121-2 that worked GREAT with MJ for a few weeks. Now, when I pick up the phone, I hear the dialtone. When I dial a number, I hear the tone of the number but the dialtone remains so it won't dial out. I also have a very hard time hearing the other person on the other end.

I have run the upgrade, formatted the MJ drive numerous times, and everything else that the support has asked me to do. Help!! Any ideas?

Check the setup for your phone to see if you can configure the touch tones that it generates to be longer in duration.

Have you accidentally switched the phone to European mode? Have you tried using the phone with a real phone line? Have you connected an additional device to the MJ dongle, like an answering machine or Caller ID box? It sounds like you are experiencing an impedance mismatch, and these three questions point to the most likely causes thereof.

I don't think it's your phone -- the issues you described, dial tone keeps going after dial along with some of the other problems like connecting but can't hear anything, MJ's becoming unavailable/corrupted/losing files/address book -- all seem to be happening lately to quite a few people including me.

When I get the situation you described or one of the others above, I sometimes unplug MJ and then replug it and the problem goes away for at least a while.

Ck the other threads here for the last week -- an ever increasing set of problems (including the ones you described) with quite a few customers.

Bottom line - you can't really troubleshoot it (though you can try to mitigate by changing some of your playback and recorder settings) and call MJ tech support for these will merely waste your time since they will try to fix your problem when the problem is often just on their end (and their unlikely to let you know that).
Have a great day,
Joel
