Dan Borislow's Blog...

Post by Gregg »

I noticed on the MagicJack packaging that Dan Borislow has a blog (http://www.borislow.blogspot.com) which simply points you to a new blog (http://magicjack.wordpress.com). Did anyone ever invite Dan Borislow to post here? It would be nice to hear from the inventor himself once in a while!

If sunrocket can have 200000 customers, I think magicjack could have more than a million. I agree they have got some internal growing and support issues to solve to handle it, but I'm hoping they do get it together and remain in business for a long time. The price is just too good for second and third lines.

The charity thing is nothing, but good tax planning. He gave 10 or 20 million dollars to a valid charity. No matter that he got a salary and a tax deduction the real charity still got 10 million dollars of his money that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The tax man took it in the shorts a bit, but who roots for the tax man. At best with the tax benefits he broke even give or take just a bit. He's the one who earned the millions not the tax man, so he got to keep a bit of it. No big deal at all if you ask me. A real charity got millions of his money, and he got a tiny bit back as a salary and maybe 40% more back as a result of the tax deduction.

Only reporters without a clue try to make a story out of something like this.

You want a rip off the charity real story. Look at the $800,000 stolen from the boys and girls clubs in New York by Air America, but reporters don't know how to write a story about a far left wing group stealing money from kids so they can buy time for propaganda on the radio.

MJ has about 10,000 -12,000 units out there. Those are active units. That isnt including any inactive units sitting on resellers shelves.

Speaking of beta has anyone ever seen beta products being sold at retail locations?

The correct way would of been to hand these out to about 1000 people (free of Charge) in the tech field and non tech field and fed off their input.

It is obvious that they didnt have much backing and need the money to develop the product. If you dont have the financial backing then you shouldnt be in business.

I was skeptical of MJ, especially after having been burned by SunRocket. But for $40, it was worth it to me to give them a shot. I'm glad I did because this thing has been way more reliable than SR ever was, and I was one of the first to join the SR bandwagon.

Beta or not, the MagicJack has worked for me, and I've already recouped my original investment by not having had to sign up for yearly service with another provider at $25 or so per month.

No, there are no bells and whistles, but I can make and receive calls when I want to and the clarity is A+. Hope they stay around for awhile.

I understand. I'm using Grandcentral, so I'm getting VM through that route. After losing my phone number to SunRocket, I didn't want to take that chance again with MJ. So I'm using GC. Only wish my GC number would show up on people's caller id.

dssman, I totally agree with you. I've had some ups and downs but for the money I can deal with it while it's in beta.

My GC number is showing up on others caller ID. I hope that it's just a temporary problem for you. Most people tell me that they started not to answer the call because they wasn't sure of whose number it was.

smcinaz wrote:That makes no sense. The only way your GC number would show up in caller ID is if you actually called from GC or if you put your GC number in your ATA (not a bad idea, really).
As an old girl that's not a techie, that was the only way I could figure out how to do it (I don't know what an ATA is).

Ma' bell charges their landline customers 10 cents a minute to call these numbers not affiliated with their company as well as cellphone numbers. But I guess it's cheaper then paying the long distance charges on the magicJack numbers.

ATA

As it relates to MJ and Grand Central, what is ATA?

ATA = Analog Telephone Adapter. It allows an regular old telephone to be connected to another format, such as your cable company's coaxial cable or ethernet or USB. Purists might have a more strict definition than this.

I disagree. Vista RTM is beta released with a false name on it (i.e. a name that wrongly implies it isn't beta). Vista SP1 will be the buggy version 1.0 release of a MS operating system. Vista SP2 in 2010 or so will be the SP1 release of Vista.

And this doesn't take into account all the crap in Vista that is designed to work as buggy crap and won't ever be fixed/changed.

You say not beta. Then are you saying alpha?

There was only ONE mentioned, and it wasn't a national chain.

In one post, someone mentioned that they purchased the magicJack at ABC Warehouse.

In another post, someone mentioned buying one in NYC.

So, the original poster did not mention buying it at ABC in NYC - smc is remembering two separate posts...

I am still impressed that smc remembered as much as he did!

Why would you go to the trouble of buying this in a retail store, when you can just buy it online?
