Softphone ad display problem

Post by sbw07 »

Hi,
Recently my mj stopped displaying the ads, or mj announcements, in the left pane of the softphone.
Instead all I see is a blank white window.
I believe that this started happening after I started using the MVPS Hosts file, however even when I removed it, the display remained blank.

I know it's not that important, but the softphone looks kind of unbalanced right now, and besides what if they actually place an important announcement there?

Could anyone help me get the display back?

sbw07,

Do you have any advertisement blockers running?

And do you have the latest Java updates?

If you don't see all the MJ ads, I call this a "blessing"

If you want to see the ads back, just format the MJ disk drive and it will force a new MJ installation and it should get it back.

Well, formatting did the trick, & I got my ads back.
Now could someone tell me... how do I block them again?

Interestingly, I noticed that although the Vista upgrade hasn't been installed since the reinstallation, my mj is still working fine. So should I install the upgrade now or wait till I run into problems? Are there any reasons not to upgrade?

This probably deserves its own thread, but once we're here already...

See, I told you! It was a "blessing" that you tossed away
If you figure out how get rid of the ads, let us know

And if it's still working, don't touch it

The simplest (& only) way I know of is to change the skin; either by removing all skin files from the mj directory or by changing to one of those talked about here

As far as the upgrade goes, I'll probably take your advice. No need to disturb the ol' Jackie.
