Who said MJ was cheap - geek report
So far I have spent about $750 on MJ, between;
2 Linksys WIP330
1 SMC WSKP100
1 Linksys SPA2102-R
1 Vonage V-phone
1 HP T5700 Thin Client 512/512
1 Transcend TS1GDOM40V-S
1 Transcend TS1GDOM40H-S
1 Hawkins Broadband Booster
2 Smart Traveler's Phones
2 Mini Flip Phones
2 Magic Jack dongles
1 5-year extension
1 prepaid international
also, add in all the countless hours spent on apprenticeship; reading, learning, hacking, configuring...
I'd better "get a new life";)

2 lines for 5 years @ $750
$ 750 / (12 months * 5 years * 2 lines) = $ 6.25 per month per line
Still cheap buddy.

MagicJack, more than free calls, it's an obsession.arcadia2uk wrote:I'd better "get a new life";)
I know what you mean. If I look at my investment in the 2 MJ's, Hawkings Broadband booster, 2 flip phones, 1 desk phone for the travel kit, a T5700 then a T5710 thin client, and hours and hours and hours reading, learning, testing, and tweaking, I would be way better off just using my calling card at 2.9 cents Canadian per minute or even the land line at 5 cents CDN per minute. Logically for me MJ didn't make sense. But it's working great now and an interesting conversation piece.
Given the fact that MJ is based on standard SIP, there is lots of fun to play with, but I'm not sure if I'll ditch MJ next year due to the flaky voice quality, even though, $20/yr for a local DID isn't bad at all.
My total cost so far is about $100, includes:
MJ dongle
ATA(PAP2v1)
Asterisk Server(a WRT54GS)
Cordless Phone(Uniden 5.8G digital)

Re: Who said MJ was cheap - geek report
Any hints or pointers to get the Linksys WIP330 working with the MJ ?

arcadia2uk,
You have a lot redundant equipment in list your list to use with your MagicJacks. If cost is truly a concern sell some of the redundant and unnecessary equipment. I suspect you are Gadget freak like many of the posters here and thoroughly enjoy every toy in your collection. desidude2000 cost analysis breakdown for two lines for $6.25 a month is still a bargain assuming MagicJack does not go out of business before the end of your 5 year extension plan. You may require an intervention as you are exhibiting signs of being a MagicJack junkie! Remember we are here to help! LOL.
