I have an ibm thinkpad that has wireless install in the system
I do not have a router and I use hotspots to get my
wireless connection. I had my magicjack for 3 months and
have always had problems with static and the phone breaking
up. Now everyone that I call say that I am choppy and i
am going in and out. Yesterday I bought a new magicjack
and I am having the same problem. My laptop is 8 years old.
My friend has a desktop and her mj works fine. I love my
magicjack but it is starting to get on my nerve. Do any one
knows why my magijack is not clear. I don't know anything about
the computer. I thought I just had to plug it in and that was it
can someone help me
Mod edit: fixed broken cap-lock key.

Hi,
Try connecting your ThinkPad with an Ethernet cable to a friend's router. I think you'll find your MJ calls will improve drastically. The main issue is likely because you are connecting via hotspots thus sharing your call with all the other Internet traffic at that hotspot. When there is a lot of traffic, the packets of information that make up your call get interspersed with other traffic and there isn't a steady stream of data to/from your MJ and your call breaks up.
There isn't much you can do about sharing Internet traffic at hotspots other than find a quiet cafe in the off hours when there are fewer other wifi customers. But test using a cable to connect directly to a router or modem, I bet you your call quality will improve. Also, don't do any Internet intensive activities on your ThinkPad like stream music, download files, etc. when you are on a call. Leave the Internet connection free for your MJ to use.

I agree with 99% of what tony says. My only difference is that, except perhaps as a further test, you do not have to seek out a wired connection. If wired connections were required over wireless, none of my WiFi SIP phones would work.
I recommend two tests for you. First, try using your laptop on your friend's wired or wireless network, whichever connection method is easier. Second, try your MJ in your friend's computer. By trying these permutations you will get closer to identifying the culprit causing your poor audio quality.
