Millenicom Mobile Wireless Broadband and MagicJack?
turned a friend onto a internet broadband company called Millenicom after reading reviews at Broadband Reports I think they use Sprints service http://www.acun.com/ His situation was that Sat Internet start up was high and had no land based broadband available. It works off of a USB dongle and gets internet from the cell towers which works a lot faster than dial up. I checked with MJ site questions to see if you can use MJ with cell broadband and they said yes no problem. Just can't use it with Satellite internet. So he got it and when he calls us from MDto DE it sounds like crap. At first I thought it was because it was MJ to MJ but his girlfriend in DE is landline based and his conection breaks up. It sounds very sporatic and you can hardly carry on a conversation and we ran optimizer even new update and still sounds like crap. I had him run SPEEDTEST and if I remember it was spekeasy and he was getting like 500 kbps down and 300 kbps up is that too low for MJ? If anyone has this set-up or something like it or has some answers I would appreciate it. He is quite upset. Thanks,smaerd58

I'm wondering if it's because both are off USB.
Does he have a cardbus slot?
Wonder if he used a usb port expansion card and connected one of them through it, if it would make a difference.
Might want to pick one up for a local store (so you can return it if it doesn't work) and give it a try.
does the MJ work ok in other computers?
Need to rule out a problem with the MJ itself.
Has he tried any kind of voicechat like Skype? Wonder if they would have any issues.
Also, is he using a headset & mic or a phone handset?
Anything running in the background? Firewall? Torrents? etc...

smaerd58,
MJ only needs about 80 kbps up & down so I don't think his bandwidth is the problem. But SpamBox may have nailed the problem with both MJ & the wireless up-link being USB, that makes for a fairly busy USB controller attempting to take it in and spit it back out at the same time.
Other on this forum have had good success with Spint/AT&T PCMCIA cards, so it can be done it you have all the right equipment.

Good thoughts Guys....live in two states so access to his computer is limited. He is not computer literate so no torrents running. Knowing him probably Norton package. Store bought computer so possable bridge overload. Ill check to see how many ports available.I would have to get the USB pci card and install it myself. Today I had him remove his printer from the top USB port on his tower and intall it next to the port that has the internet dongle. That left the two top ports open which he intalled the MJ by itself. The sound quality was better but still drops out while talking. I figure that the top ports and the bottom ports where on different bridges? The computer is a emachine T-2885 2.8 Celeron 512 ram so that should be fine. Should I try and change the proxy from Nash to something closer? Thanks

This could be the problem.smaerd58 wrote:Knowing him probably Norton package.
Doesn't really sound like a proxy problem. Have him go to the voip test web site mentioned earlier. Sounds like packets are being dropped. Not very familiar with his type of ISP. Sounds like though it would be fine for data but voip might have an issue with it. Have you tried any other voip like gizmo or some other SIP programsmaerd58 wrote:Store bought computer so possable bridge overload. I have been using my MJ with a Sprint wireless card for about a month. The quality varies widely. I can check my speed and sometimes it is 1200kbps down and 300kbps up and other times, sometimes within seconds of the first test I am at 250kbps down and 75kbps up. The enviroment that internet over RF operates in is at best very harsh. Packets are constantly dropped, however when you are sending data vs. voice there is time for error correction to fix such problems. I have had both calls with wonderful voice quality and calls where I can make out what the other party is saying, but they can't make out my side of the conversation at all. However, after a month I would say that most of the time I will grab my cell phone rather than the MJ phone even though I am burning up minutes because the MJ phone is unreliable to count on for consistant quality. I have used it at friends homes that have cable internet and the call quality is usually outstanding. I have tried every fix I can think of, generally it changes nothing. I think that there is a possibility that 4G when it arrives may fix some of the problems, but I don't hold out much hope. I also have Vonage and although not perfect, the Vonage line is ALWAYS better quality than the MJ line.
