Magic Jack They charged my account before I even received the equipment. They say it's a free trial but know I know different. Lucky I had the money in my account. Then when you chat with them they said know it's a debit card? Because it is a visa card. I wish I had come here first to look at the complaints. I will get refund when I get the MJ. If Your Having Problems With MJ-So Are Many Other People-

Point is. It's illegal to knowingly sell defective merchandise or make claims to the contrary. This device does not work as promised. It has way too many problems and the company has done nothing to fix it. Why is that? Why is there no quality control or a team working around the clock to make sure people have phones that make clear calls everytime. It is possible but it takes more time and effort. MJ claims to sell 300"000 new units per month. Why not reinvest in R + D and get these thing to work right? Not much to ask I'd say. I have two of them and would like to be able to use them again sometime.
It was ok-it lasted about 6 hours. They lost the internet. That's fine. Their new and they sent out emails to everyone explaining what happened and how they fixed it. In other words, they had a problem and they got right on it to resolve it. Now, why can.t MJ do that? Mj has alot more cistomers by now then Ooma and alot more money. There's no reason for the ongoing problems that people are having to put up with. Not right. I have a friend in Europe and I'd like to give her one of my MJs but I need a better audio first. That Ooma glitch was the first real problem they have had. Pretty good track record so far.The clarity of the calls is still amazing.
By the way-I have never said I "hate" MJ. I just hate bad sounding calls. I hate it that after having it for 3 years they have never done a thing to improve the sound quality. If they did that one thing they would sell alot more then they do now.In some areas the audio is better then in others. In my area in the West, people with MJ have alot of background noise and echos in the calls. I have 3 friends with them right around my area and they all are having the same problem.

Same here, works great since day one ( Aug 2008) Clear as a bell both ends..
I even have 10 or so apps open and have even been d/l'ing at the same time as using my MJ and still clear.. NOW u/l'ing thats different as it gets a little choppy.
ONLY problem of late has been voicemail. Have had it reset 2x now as it always says no messages yet I get an email with the message. Works for about a week after the refresh then same thing. I can live with it...

To be fair, MJ has had network problems that they hid and we know that they don't communicate at all with their customer base. But we also know that a lot of the problems that are discussed on this forum have nothing to do with MJ but rather Microsoft, malware, virus', etc. The Microsoft platform is a beast and full of rat-holes that bring the best tech support personnel to tears. Look at some of the tech support boards for various software applications and the problems people have installing, running, and maintaining them on their PCs. MJ has both hardware and software to integrate and make work with PCs. And its supposed to work with all shapes and sizes of PCs - from those operated and maintained by knowledgeable computer folks down to my brother-in-law! 
Now, of course MJ chose its own path and marketing strategy and knew the kinds of pitfalls they would encounter integrating into a Windows environment. But they also knew they could sell a LOT of cheap USB dongles that would work for a lot of people and that's where their 30 day money back crap comes in. Give back money to those whose machines are so crapped out it won't work and keep making money off those whose machines do work.
And by the way, my MJ installed cleanly and worked from day 1 on both my corporate laptop and my home WinXP machines. Yes, I had all sorts of call quality issues at first - mostly echo on calls to my own area code. Call to other area codes were flawless from the get-go. But *67 'tricks' and blocking oversubscribed proxies (along with new MJ software releases) fixed all of my problems. I have no complaints for my $1.67/month charge. I'm still not ready to let go of my Verizon land-line yet, but I'm getting closer.

saxman if you're paying $1.67 per month then you better not to expect too much, mine works well and if ever this little shiny thing will not work for me then maybe im not lucky enough to use it, BTW MJ device is just a little amazing thing and im sure if the product will not perform well then it is your PC, routers or internet connection that causes the problem, and if those stuff are good then let us conclude its the MJ device who is faulty, if this happen then why not return the product or ask for a replacement right? the point is not all of the product will work as you expect on your end dont expect too much if you are paying a little cost... try it again or go back to Verizon with $21.00/month.

The Magic Jack device was one of the easiest pieces of hardware I have ever installed. It took me less than 3-4 minutes to plug it into the computer, install the software, get a telephone number and make a call. It has NEVER failed to operate as advertised in the two months I have been using it. This considering I use it as the main line for my home business too. Most of the complaints I read here are based on user error, lack of proper supporting equipment or the user not educating themselves to number availability etc. prior to purchase. IMO, it can't work so well for so many people and then not work for others unless there is something lacking with the user's associated hardware or internet service and this isn't a MJ issue. It is a user issue.
