Install / Configure / Program New Magicjack from Outside US

Post by slmassad »

Is it possible to Install / Configure / Program a NEW MagicJack from Outside the US? We took a new one outside the US and it won't let the unit obtain a "phone number". I am assuming we have to take it back to the US to program/configure/install it and then take it out of the US again.......

.........anyway around it? We've tried it on more than one machine outside the US and it says service not available. The one we had programmed in the US works fine................

Yes

You can install it anywhere in the world as long it has a broadband connection with xp/vista/mac and allow the right ports/sites to connect to.

NOTE: some countries block certain ip's from the U.S if not all....i think.

Problem with setting up NEW MAGICJACK outside the country...

Post by slmassad »

..........maybe I didn't make my point clearly.............

I am currently out of the country and have 4 magicjacks...........

2 have already been programmed in the US and work fine HERE OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTRY ON NUMEROUS COMPUTERS...........

the 2 NEW ONES, just out of the package.............will not "register" to get a phone number on the same machines that the others work on.................

When you read literature on "how can my magicjack help my family/friends internationally" they always state:
"Buy a magicjack, program it and send it to your family and friends........" never directly mentioning it, but implying that they need to be programmed BEFORE you send them out of the country..........

SO MY QUESTION IS...........I HAVE 4 OUT OF THE COUNTRY........THE TWO WITH NUMBERS WORK..........THE NEW TWO DON'T.................I guess I have to take them back to the US and program them and then bring them back........unless anyone knows of another way........

Thanks,

Like i said before yes you can register it from anywhere in the world(according to MJ techs lol)... if you still have doubt go and chat live with a MJ tech http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/magi ... -t301.html

there is a post on here somewhere of someone who sent an MJ out of the country and is working great... dunno if they registered it before they sent it though... search around.

Maybe try using a US proxy to register it. Just a thought.

Yes it works fine all around the world....As long as it is not blocked by the ISP and the connection can withstand it. Theres no guarentee on how good the quality will be, but it works. BTW Maybe we should sticky this since it is talked about alot. Eh?
Peace

It may be an ISP/Proxy issue. Here is what I mean:

1) Often while travelling internationally, there are certain web sites that can't connect to or use certain functionality with or automatically get connected to a "country-specific" site (i.e., Google, Yahoo, some bank sites etc.). This type of IP geolocation is typically performed by the web site owner/host -- this is probably not the case w/ MJ ... unless there is an issue w/ their "Provisioning" and SIP Proxy chooser Server algorithm (at least Host file MJ Proxy Server spoofing can help you select whatever SIP Proxy you want)

2) More likely: may be your ISP blocking ports or IPs that MJ needs to complete provisioning for some reason (check this useful post showing the necessary ports)

To avoid this hassle, I have always provisioned before traveling -- but obviously I realize that if you live outside the US you don't have much possibility to "pre-provision".
