I usually use my MagicJack in New York but am visiting Montreal Canada for a week and brought it with me. I had the problem described elsewhere where dialing out only 800 numbers worked otherwise I got silence, I did not even get the message telling me how many minutes I had left on an international call. I then used a VPN back to my home network and all outgoing calls worked. I would prefer not to have to use a VPN constantly. I already tried the following to no avail:
1) In Reg edit, gave full control to the USB and USB STOR for everyone.
2) Turned of Anti Virus
3) Installed divx player from www.divx.com
4) Ran the magic fix from this link www.magicjacktv.com/1/magicfix.asp
5) Unplugged it and plugged it into a different port.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Using Magicjack on Canada trip have to VPN to NY

Welcome to our Canadian Magic Jack nightmare. It is very typical for calls made on the MJ here in Canada to take 40 seconds (almost exactly)
to connect. Expect dead air until that time.
I don't know what the issue is, but you'll find a few workarounds if you read one of the stickys in the forums. They may or may not work for you.

Interesting. I held on and the system did change from session progress to active after about 40 seconds, but I still just got dead air, no ringing. I have resigned myself to just maintaining my vpn to New York as I'm only here another few days. Hopefully this won't occur when I'm in England in a couple of months.

Hmm, there are lots of MJ subscribers in Canada and the MJ works fine. As others have said, it could be the internet service where you are staying. If you can, try an Internet cafe or some other internet connection.zrmamc wrote:I usually use my MagicJack in New York but am visiting Montreal Canada for a week and brought it with me. You also mention International minutes, are you calling outside of the US or Canada? If you are calling back to the US, it doesn't require International minutes, it's in the free calling area (for MJ).
