Bluetooth and Magic Jack?

Post by msean »

I read on another website that Magic Jack works with Bluetooth Headsets but I can't picture how to do it. I am using a HP tower with Vista Home.

Thanks, Michael

-Click on the Menu button on your MJ softphone.
-Click on Volume/Headset Control....
-Select Headset/Other.
-Select in the drop down menu your particular bluetooth headset for both Speaker/earpiece and Microphone.

That should get you working with your bluetooth headset.
See the MagicJack Wiki (FAQ, How-To, history and more).

Thanks for the reply. I get as far as choosing earpiece and microphone, but none of the choices in the drop down menu are for my bluetooth headset. Is there a way to add it?

Thanks, Michael

Your HP tower will need to support Bluetooth, if it doesn't already you will need to get a Bluetooth adapter. I think you can get a USB Bluetooth adapter for around $20. Then you will need to register your headset with the computer, then it should show up as an option in that list.
See the MagicJack Wiki (FAQ, How-To, history and more).

Thanks for the help Kif. I found a Jabra adapter at Target, so I should be all set.

Thanks again, Michael

bluetooth

I am also not able to get my bluetooth headset to work. I have paired the headset with my laptop and the MJ softphone drop downs list the bluetooth headset, but neither the mic or earpiece is working. When I paired the headset with the laptop, I selected the VOIP option and a Skype icon appeared on the taskbar. That icon indicates the skype connection failed.
Is skype somehow interfering with MJ?
Thanks for your help

Hey guys,

I've read all your threads, but still I'm not able to use my bluetooth headset "Pleantronics Voyager 510" with MJ...

I think I was able to pair-up the headset with the USB adapter on my IBM T41 laptop!. when I double click on the BT icon, I can the my Voyager 510, but I don't know what to do next?

I have gone to "under sounds and audio devices" in ctrl panel, and in the drop down menu, in addition to the SoundMAX (default), I can see "USB Internet Phone By Tigerjet" (I think that's MJ), but I can't see the headset device! It is also worth noting that when I select that the device volume is all grayed out. i.e. there is no volume.

Also when I go to MJ menu, then to volume headset control, all I can see is the original "SoundMAX" device selected and no other devices (i.e. headset) in the drop-down menu! I have restarted MJ, but to no avail!

Can someone please help...?

Volume/Headset Control Doesn't Work or is Disabled

The control is set to use a headset. When I try to click the radio button to "telephone" nothing happens.

How can I change the setting to allow use of a phone?

Hi,
Here's my experience with a bluetooth and Windows 7. I could pair up the BT headset with the Acer laptop fine, but the control panel showed an exclamation mark on the BT icon. I let Windows 7 search for a solution and it brought me to http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php. Initially I was a bit leary as I didn't know what BroadCom had to do with Windows 7 but I went ahead and installed the software and Win7 recognized the BT headset. I then went into control panel > sounds to set the BT to be th default mic and playback devices (not sure I needed to do this, will experiment more later). I restarted MJ so it would recognize the new settings and now MJ works great with BT. I just did a test call to my home voicemaill and the sound quality is quite good. So now I don't need to lug my GE slimline telephone on trips.

Thanks tony, I finally got mine to work, it's a Plantronics Explorer 360
Plantronics website didn't have a driver for it but your link did.
