Dial tone, I dial, it starts ringing, but then goes dead

Post by wstt »

I get dial tone, I dial, it starts ringing, but then the sound goes dead.
The magic jack display on my computer screen shows the call active but there is no sound or anything. The callers on the other end also say that there was nothing there when they picked up.
If I then try again, normally it works the second time.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and what a fix might be?

Let me know what you find out, as I get the same thing on my Mac. Is this a location thing? Where are you at? I'm in Utah.

I'm in Chicago. It has now started happening mid way through calls. I'll be talking to someone, and then they won't be able to hear me but I can hear them, or I'll be talking to someone and it will just go dead, mid conversation. I wish magicjack could recognize these problems and give some insight into what might be causing them. My CPU usage is low, and I have a 3GB internet line which gets limitted use.

wstt,

I am using the Chicago proxy server, and I am having similar problems. More typically I have a dial tone, but no rings when making outgoing calls. Usually, eventually I get an answer -- someone just starts talking, sometimes some of their reply seems to be cut off.

I have finally got my ATA up and running, so it is probably due to some settings that still need tweaking, and I'll keep searching here for help to solve that. But I had similar problems with the dongle.

I had the same problem going on yesterday morning, Friday, there seemed to be a slight problem on the MJ server that was cured when the MJ chat tech refreshed my account.. I have two other MJs that were not effected, just the one.. give a shout to the Tech at Chat and have them give you a refresh.. It only took about 3 minutes total time of contact to done  hmm :?

These problems seemed to be resolved for me by putting my ATA between my modem and router (instead of just hooked into my router). Than again (and seeing no further related posts), maybe it was just a temporary problem on MJ's end that went away over time. :?
