How to connect Magic Jack as a Nortel PBX remote extension ?

Post by newsite »

Hi,

Currently we have a Nortel MICS PBX with a old fashion voice T1 coming in with 4 800 incoming numbers. We want to add VOIP service service as a lower cost alternative to the T1 (but we will keep the T1 as a backup). We are shopping for a provider at this time so any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

Here is where the magic jack comes in. We have 3 reps in 3 different countries who we want to connect to our PBX via as remote extensions off the PBX so that they can have the same type of phone (Nortel T7316) with the same functionality and information coming from the home office's PBX.

We have looked as the Citel PBX Extender but their tech guy tested it with a magic jack but it would not work. Basically the idea is to use an analog or digital line to carry the Nortel signal from the home PBX to a remote extension. What the extender does is call into the home PBX and tell it to ring it back to the telephone number of the remote and thus creating a line to carry the signal to remote extension from the PBX. We are looking at the Magicjack because someone from Asia or Europe can be called from our home PBX without any toll charges.

Please help me if I am looking at this problem in the wrong light or if there is a PBX extender that works with the MagicJack.

Thanks so much !!!
