Voicemail outgoing greeting is generic and can not be change

Post by Anybun »

I have done all the steps to record a greeting, but the generic answering voice still played. I ended up recording a message for option 1, 2, 3 and 4. See below for definitions. Has recording option 4 created a problem? Is there a way to delete a recorded message?

Unavailable message (option 1), busy message (option 2), record your name (option 3), record a temporary greeting (option 4)

What really is option 4 if there is no way to turn if off after a vacation or need for a special message?

Thanks for the tip.

I just read the messages below. I wonder if the volume problems were ever resolved?

Fredericksburg, TX Try calling again. I just got my MJ and the first call to voicemail got me an unintelligible, broken greeting. The second call fixed that.

"Poor quality" means what? What the recorded greeting all broken up into jittery or piecemail sound bits? If so, what type of telephone was connected to the MagicJack when you recorded your greeting, or did you try using a different phone that doesn't use the MagicJack?

If the "poor quality" means the sound level is low (i.e., the greetings and caller messages are soft or faint), that is a defect in their voicemail system. Their automated (female) voice comes through just fine at a normal sound level but the playback of your greeting and the caller's messages will be faint. When you get the e-mail with the .wav file attachment with the caller's recorded message, it will also be faint.

YMax has, so far, refused to acknowledged the low sound level problem in the voicemail recordings. You may have to re-listen to a message several times. You'll have to scream when you record your greetings (but it really doesn't help the caller recognize what you said in your greeting). When you play the .wav file in the e-mail notification of new voicemail, you'll have to turn up the volume level in both Windows Media Player (or whatever app is associated to .wav files) along with sliding the master volume all the way up (and then return them to normal positions afterward so you don't blow out your speakers or blare yourself out of your chair when playing other sound sources).

So far, voicemail for MagicJack sucks. Sometimes when it picks up the incoming call after 4 rings, the caller just hears dead air (no greetings are heard, just a couple click noises when the voicemail system should've picked up the call). Sometimes after the 4 rings the caller hears a busy signal (the call got connected but their voicemail system was busy). And then there's the problem of faint playback of recordings for voicemail greetings or messages. I gave up on using their voicemail system. I set my answering machine to pickup a call after 2 rings (it has to be shorter than the 4 rings afterwhich YMax's voicemail will pickup the call). So my answering machine picks up before YMax's voicemail will pickup. Greetings are clear and easily heard from my answering machine as are also the recordings of messages left by callers.

I have asked about disabling voicemail on my account but YMax refuses to allow that option. Voicemail is ALWAYS on. Voicemail isn't a feature that can optioned by the user. You get it whether you want it or not, and you get whatever crappy voicemail system they employed.

Nope never had a poor quality voice mail message, others or my own.
Then again I have had my MJ since Aug 08 and it has worked well from day one.. I have MANY apps open ( at least a dozen) and have been downloading many times and not once has my MJ suffered. OF COURSE if I am U/l a file then yes there is break up. So as the DR says, if it hurts when you do that? Don't do that :)
