usb softphone has encountered a problem error

Getting ready to start round 3 with tech support on my MJ problem.
I saw some other posts here about this problem, but nothing that I hadn't tried on my own or with script readers at live person.

I got bumped to level 2, but the support girl disappeared after she had me wait 3 minutes before plugging in the MJ.

MJ was working fine on my Acer Aspire 1 until last week.
I installed a RAM disk last week, that's the only thing I can remember that changed (it really made a difference in browsing with firefox).

I also get a "usb softphone splash screen has encountered a problem and needs to close" error, sometimes 2 of those.

MJ works on my desktop, except for not decoding zeros from my KTX-TG5480 cordless phone, and screwing up Skye.

Any ideas?
