Hello,

My mother is looking for a cheap home phone.

She lives way out in the boon docks and can only buy satellite internet.

I know that the box says you cant do it, but is it correct?

i searched the forums and didnt return any useful links..

Run the voip quality tests at www.testyourvoip.com and myvoipspeed.visualware.com.

Pay close attention to the details and you will know for certain why MJ, or any other voip service, is unsuitable for satellite based internet. Likely you will note significant packet loss, long ping response times and miserable jitter lag times. All of these factors will be reflected in the overall MOS rating that is sure to be in high 2's to low 3's.

OTOH, if you do get seemingly acceptable results, try again when its raining!!!

You may want to investigate if there are any fixed wireless carriers servicing her area, they are typically a more stable source of internet connectivity. They are gewnerally referred to as WISP services. Try a google search for wisp and your zip code
