I recently bought a MagicJack and so far have been very pleased. I setup a Windows XP Pro remote managed box and have it installed that way, thanks to a post on these forums detailing that I had to change Remote Desktop to leave sound on remote computer.
Anyways, on to my question. What would happen in the event of a MJ device failure? I don't know the lifespan of the units, but I do know I've had electronics wear out sooner than they should and with my current setup the MJ software and dongle are plugged in and running 24x7. I'd like to think one could simply go to a local retailer (in my case I bought mine at BestBuy) and continue to use the same number. It would really suck to have to get a new number in the event of a device failure.
Is your MJ Account's phone number tied to the dongle?

new jack ok with number if done before
If you get another MJ BEFORE you start it you need to call/email and have them port your old number to the new MJ or once it is registered your screwed and wont be able to use it with your old number.

Thank you for your reply. I don't expect it'll fry any time soon, but like all electronics you never know. It's good to know my phone number can be moved to the new device.
I apologize for not searching well enough, I did try but it came up with so many results.. I probably used a string too long to search for.
Thanks again!
