Hello:
Anyone ever had any success with the following?
I have an unlocked G1, and I am quite sure its a developer phone...I was a Google employee, until they sold my division and kicked some of us to the curb.
Anyhow, I have a G1 with no cell service currently, but would like to make VOIP calls when at a hotspot. I was hoping to marry it the the MagicJack...especially since there are no Linux drivers. I was able to make sipdroid work PARTIALLY without a PBXes setup, with Diamondcard.us...It would do outgoing, but incoming would not ring, and have no audio.
The no ring is I believe an issue with SIP Droid, but when following some of the how-to's with Magic Jack and SIP Droid, I had zero success using PBXes.org.
If anyone has had success using a WiFi app, such as SIP Droid with no cell service, I would appreciate all the help.
Thanks,
-pk

MJ and G1
Hi:
Yes, I have been using my MJ settings and Sipdroid for about a month and it works great! Only thing is, since the great ATA failure and recent MJ update it is no longer working. Until that is figured out if it ever is, it won't work unless for some reason your MJ Sip settings are still working. You will need to go through pbxes.org and setup a free account adding your MJ Sip settings as a trunk. But yes, it works very well. I was able to make and receive calls to my MJ number with caller ID and everything. I do have an active cell phone though. You mentioned that you didnt have any regular service. If you dont have service how are you going to connect to the internet without a data plan?

I connect through WiFi...at the house, work, etc. When I was using Diamondcard, it worked great for outbound, but setting up the PBXes is a little confusing.
I don't get ringing, but I think thats a SIPDroid issue...believe the code isn't written to handle that.
I am basically wanting to use the G1 as a "softphone"...at least till I can kill my Sprint plan next year, and reactivate the G1...I am not eating an ETF on the Sprint phone
