Error-Please connect to the internet and double click
My MJ experience has been not outstanding but honestly not bad for the price. However, for the last few days it has stopped working altogether. The message reads "Error - Please connect to the internet and double click here". (I am getting this error where it used to say "Ready to Call". The internet connection is perfectly fine though as I can open everything else. My area code is 216 if that helps. I am getting a dial tone along with the error message and I cannot make or receive calls.
I want to give some more background. I had this problem in early January 2008 and it got resolved after I Reset the router, did the System Restore and then started using a different USB port for MJ.
However, this stupid error has started coming again and I will list a few things that I have already tried but no success yet
My Setup first
Windows Vista O/S Home Premium, using a http://www.utstar.com/Document_Library/0046.pdf (UT-300RTU) HIGH SPEED ADSL 2/2+ ROUTER /BRIDGE CPE Router (have never tinkered with the default settings and it was working on the same router just a week back). I did disable the Windows firewall but still have Norton AV 2008 for Vista as on and it has a firewall, which was again always there (last time when I had the problem I removed Norton and it still didn’t work so I doubt that this is the Firewall issue).
Now all that I have tried and no success yet
1) I Reset the router, did the System Restore and then started using a different USB port for MJ. I have now exhausted all the ports on my laptop.
2) I tried running the magicfix, however it fails at the very last step "Checking the magicJack's configuration ..." and I get the error "Unable to access your magicJack. Please reinsert the magicJack and contact tech support if the problem continues." My MJ is plugged in when I get this error though.
3) I also tried http://digital-nomads.blogspot.com/2008 ... tware.html suggestions.
Version Number One
Unplug the MagicJack USB Dongle. Go to "Start" in Windows and click on "run" and type (enter) regedit and press Enter.
Now Click on + Sign next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE.
Click on + Sign next to SYSTEM.
Click on + Sign next to CurrentControlSet.
Click on + Sign next to Enum.
Locate the folder called USB. Right Click on the Folder and Click on "Permissions".
In permissions Click on the Check Mark called "Allow" to the right of "Full Control".
Click OK.
Next Click on + Sign next to USB and locate two folders called "Vid1307".
Right Click on one at a time and select Delete.
Next Click on - Sign next to USB.
Right Click on the folder named USBSTOR and Allow permissions.
Next Click on + Sign next to USBSTOR.
Locate the folders named "CdRom&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev" and "Disk&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"
Right Click on these Folders one at a time and hit Delete.
Version Number Two
Double Click on your Hard Drive (usually called C:\).
Double Click on Documents and Settings.
Double Click on the Folder that has the Username you use when logging into Windows.
Double Click on Application Data.
Double Click on Folder labeled "mjusbsp".
Double Click on Folder labeled "in00000".
Find the Setup File there and Delete.
Version Number Three
Use Device Manager to Uninstall the MagicJack cdrom/disk drive/usb hub.
Unplug the MagicJack device.
Delete the mjusbsp Directory and all Subdirectories (probably at c:\documents and settings\(your user profile name)\application data\mjusbsp).
Use regedit to locate the HKEY Current User Talk4Free entries and Delete the Talk4Free Key and all Subkeys.
Delete the MagicJack Directory and all Subdirectores (probably at c:\documents and settings\(your user profile name)\local settings\application data\magicjack).
Delete any start menu and desktop Icons.
Reboot.
However, I was not successful in doing Version Number One although my user is listed the Administrator of the laptop that I run at my parents home. I wasn't able to give Full Control Permission to the USB and USBSTOR folders and hence was unable to delete the folders. I am on a computer running Vista OS.
I would greatly appreciate help from the community to get my MJ back to life. Thanks for reading this long post but I wanted to start by giving as much information as possible,
Thanks much.

I've had Error 400 for over 3 weeks now. Worked great up until then.
I've done everything you've listed, many times.. Plus more..
MJ tech support say they're having server issues/upgrading hardware/no problem at all/proxy registration issues... The list goes on, it just depends on what tech you get..
Someone on here was able to help me by making sure it was not my computer, MJ or connection and that it truly was in fact a server side issue.
I've gone through a big pain in the ass so far.. Hopefully they'll get this fixed for both of us, If that is in fact the cause for you as well.
I got a list of people around my area that are getting Error 400s.. Yet nothing is being done about it, or so we can tell.. I've got a 410 area code btw.

nc14,
I got that off the MJ site a few weeks back, I think it is supposed to rebuild you MJ from scratch off of their servers. It was always the last ditch tool. But for the life of me I can not find it on their site again. I kept a copy of all their tools in my sharing folder but I can guarantee it is clean and directly from MJ. But if you have reservations just scan it with Norton or whatever.

I started using the spoofer about a month ago and had the "Connect to the Internet and double-click here." error. I resolved it by altering the rules associated with getting the spoofer working. In a nutshell, I quit using the spoofer because anytime the MJ was restarted I had to perform several steps to get it working again.Jacksondale wrote:Are you folks running the spoofer?? I started having a lot of error 3 problems running the spoofer, especially after the last upgrade.
If you are using the spoofer then that is the problem, removing any entries (other than 127.0.0.1) from the hosts file will resolve your problem.
HolmanGT,
Thanks for the elaborate answer and honestly I was not suspecting that you will be pointing me to a Virus file (you have a lot of helping posts in this forum for me to think that you will be sending Viruses) . I wish this thing had worked for me. I am back to square with the same error message. Any more help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing your experience guys. Sorry for my ignorace but help me understand what is a spoofer here. I however, did the last Vista upgrade from MJ's website and my MJ worked for like 4 weeks without any problems but getting this stupid error all the time now.
sbb, Can you please explain more (in layman terms) how you fixed your error and what do you mean by "alteriing the rules associated with getting the spoofer working". Also, please elaborate on "removing any entries (other than 127.0.0.1) from the hosts file ". Where can I find the host file? Does MJ adds some entries to the host file?
I will greatly appreciate your response. Thanks for contributing by adding your experience and hopefully I will be able to learn somethings and hopefully have a working MJ

Tragon,
I have not tried a whole lot of things (I am sure you are much more technical then I am) but it would be great to atleast know that the problem is not at our end. How did you figure out that the problem is with MJ and not your computer?
I have had this before and after doing some simple things it worked for me and I am suspecting something similar. Please keep us posted if you get it to work for you or if you hear something back from MJ folks.
Thanks for the post.

Well to be honest, I tried everything under the sun.. I spent over a week pulling my hair out with no luck. Someone here offered to help me by registering my MJ # on his soft phone to remove any doubt that it was something wrong with my computers/connection/the usb device itself. No matter what he tried, when trying to register it to get my dearly missed "Ready To Call" message.. He also got the Error 400. He tried changing the proxy server it connects to. Still Error 400. At the same time, all his stuff works for him with no problems.
I've tried the MJ on 4 computers. With and without routers, firewalls, port forwarding, cleared my systems out I don't know how many times, you name it.. I get a green light for 911, but I still get that please connect to the net blah blah Error 400. When I click Vmail, it'll say "Waiting for proxy registration", then kick me back to Error 400. And this was after the MJ working perfectly fine for a couple months only to start crapping out over a couple days (I could unplug and reset the mj to get it to work again), but then it died on me fully.
Depending on what tech support you get, some say there is no problem (because they're clueless), but most will tell you that their engineers know of the issue and to please give it 24 hours. We're making upgrades.. give it 24 hours... I've lost count as to how many times I've heard that.
Magicfix also gives an error when it hits the point of checking network access to MJ servers. I get a bad request saying please report the error to tech support.
From what I know, the engineers attempted to fix the issue once a couple weeks back.. Over the course of an hour, It would go from Error 3 to Error 400 back and forth. When it was error 3, 911 was down as well, meaning the proxy was being taken offline all together. When Error 400 pops up, 911 goes green and the server is online.. but the server is blocking any registry attempt my MJ makes, so I get no service.
Which is why I'm thinking of getting a new MJ and if I can, register it to a different area code and hope it registers to a different server. I'm not 100% sure how that all works but yeah.. That or pay to have someone get one and register it, then send it to me. lol
410 area code.. 3 + weeks with Error 400, bad request to proxy registration server... and counting!
Tragon,
I am using area code 216 phone. How do you find out the proxy server to which MJ connects? I am upto the point where I am not left with many choices, I wish this thing had worked for some more time. I will keep on trying though. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
