Obsolete: outbound Caller ID blocking and spoofing
Moderators: Bill Smith, Pilot
I added them all and it works now. Thought i would try it first with the magicjack proxy as 67.90.152.70 and worked thanksdukeomaha wrote:Why don't you try putting ALL of them in your host file? And in the spoofer, just enter the dns address of any proxy server closest to you. Let us know how it goes.snowigloo wrote:thats going to take a while already tried 6 and no luck
Its looks like the proxy servers IPs are dynamic. I noticed nasheville jump to three different IPs within a few hours.
If you seem to be having this problem, here's a tip to fix it.
1. Unplug MJ.
2. Open up the windows hosts file and comment out the line that nashville or what ever proxy you are using is on.
3. Open up command prompt.
4. type "ping proxy1.nashville.talk4free.com".
5. Now write down or copy the ip address returned to the clipboard. You can close the comand prompt window now.
6. Paste or type the ip address into hosts files and then uncomment the line nashville is on.
7. Close the file and save changes.
8. Plug in MJ and it will start working.
--------------------------
Also to MagicHack, did you ever post the code or project. I'd like to take a look at the code to see if I could help out with the dynamic ip issues we are having.

Sure it still works?
I've been using the spoof for a few weeks and now all of a sudden cannot make it work. First it happened with Nashville a few days ago. I changed it Atlanta, followed the tips here and got it working. Now I've tried several and it's not working. I wonder if MJ folks have adopted a fix that they are making throughout their network? Anyone care to validate it still is spoofing and if so, which proxy?
Thanks guys

I downloaded the program, but can't install it. Please help.
I downloaded CallerIDSpoof.exe
I double clicked on it.
A big black window opened up, with a cursor that bounces all over the screen.
It keeps doing that endlessly, nothing seems to happen.
I do have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed. Running Windows XP.
How can I get this running?

MJ CallerID Spoofer Doesn't Work Using MJ Softphone
Okay I am editing my original post saying I couldn't get Spoofer v1.1 to work and now it works!
I edited the hosts file and put in every one of the proxy servers, as mentioned a few pages ago.
And that did the trick. I can now use my GrandCentral #.
I have no idea which proxy my MJ is actually using.
I put the IP address of the Chicago proxy in the spoofer, as someone else tried 2 pages ago and got theirs to work.
How do I find out exactly which proxy my MJ is connecting to?
If there is a program or utility I need to download that will show this, just let me know.

If you *don't* have any proxy entries in your hosts file (and are not running the spoofer), then MJ will do a DNS lookup for the proxy. Clear your DNS cachestart MJ, when it shows 'ready to call', typeand look for the proxy entry.
Or, run Wireshark to capture traffic when MJ starts, then look at the DNS requests.
Code: Select all
ipconfig /flushdns
Code: Select all
ipconfig /displaydns

I have noticed that the :proxy1.Newark.talk4free.com (67.106.133.198) seems to have random Ping drop outs and around 150ms earlier today. Seems to be working fine now.. I still think the Nashville is the best option. Just got my MJ two days ago and with the callerspoofid.exe I think this is the best 40 dollars I have spent in a long time.. Very very happy with this

I did this and do not have a single "Proxy" dns listing. There are many associated with MJ but none are for a Proxy.City.talk4free.com address.
Need to clarify instructions on the spoofer settings
Do I use the ipconfig /displaydns command to find my mJ proxy for the spoofer program???
Now for the Local mJ IP I am behind a router do I use the NAT address that the router gives the computer running the device or the IP addressed assigned to my router?
Thx!

then saved it.
went on the spoof ver 1.1 and set th proxy to 67.90.152.70
local ip to 127.0.0.1
and it worked until i turned off the machine and then tried to use it again. now it will not work i get a error 3 message "please connect to the internet and double click here" witch i did it then asks for my email and password. witch i did but not its not working.

right before i got it to work i think i had a newark proxy.
should i still keep the localhost proxy and if i do keep it should i put it before or after the nashville one?

Spoofed now no Incoming calls
I did the sppof changed everthing like it says. It spoofs perfect but now when I call my number it says "not a valid number"

almost working
After a few days of this and that I have most of the spoofing working. Only problem is no 911. In the mj window where the 911 info is it says "not connected, no 911 info available". Also in the spoofing gui when I check block caller id it sends my mj number to the caller. Neither of these are a big deal, but.
The only way I could get any of this to work was to add all 30 proxys in the hosts file. If I just add the one I am using in both the spoofing gui and hosts file, which is Nashville it does not work.
Also off topic has anyone had a problem with low volume to the calling party. I can hear fine but they can hardly hear me. I have cranked up the volume in the mj window for the telephone and turned down on the headset. Anything I can checkout. Changed phones and usb ports and called tech support. You know how much help I got there.
Thanks for any help.
911 now working. Still have problem with low volume other end.

The perl script should run fine on a Mac. Use Wireshark or tcpdump to find out what proxy you are using. I don't know how to make it resolve to your machine (the name lookup scheme was changed in Leopard), but the comments in your host file should point you in the right direction (if a hosts file entry does not work as expected).DCSholtis wrote:Anyone come up with a way to do this with Macs yet?
The 1.1 code needs to be re-written and a web service api hosted somewhere for everybody to ping for all the IPs. I requested the code awhile back in a thread but I may PM magichack.
I guess magicjack is now paying for leased IP addresses instead of static. If you a have configurable router you could set your router up to do the job but a web api still needs to be developed so we don't have half a million people pinging magicjack servers just for an IP address. This way one server can ping the magicjack servers and everybody else can request the data from the service hosting the web service API.
I'll look into hosting the webservice since I'm moving my website over to godaddy hosting next month.

web service
hype8912, while I can see what you are saying with the web service, I do not think the issue is with the proxies going down. It looks more like an expiration of some sort of registration that our magicjacks do on the proxy. Once it expires, the spoofing seems to 'freak out'. This is all 100% guessing but there are many times when it doesn't work and the proxy is clearly up.
anyway, brainstorming, that's what this is all about. And the code can be found at the very beginning of this forum.

Two questions.... my ability to connect using the Caller ID Spoofer seems to be intermitant (uh, like right now it's not working).
1.) Has something changed to keep it from working?
2.) Does using the spoofer affect the quality. Even with the Hawking BBB, I'm having a heck of a time with quality.
Thanks..

Wont work for me... .also my Proxy is not at any of those...
So I just tried this and doesnt work for me. I am in Nashville.
My DNS seems to be telling my MJ to connect to something new ...
PROV1.TALK4FREE.COM at 67.90.152.80
as well as a 911.TALK4FREE.COM at the same CNAME record of PROV1
No one has mentioned this DNS name so thought I would post it....

Stewarts awesome Call ID Spoofer
Stewart MajicHack,
Excuse my dumb question but how do I edit my hosts file?
I downloaded your CID spoofer.
It looks great.

Can't call in....
Whenever mine will not allow call in, I stop the spoofer and be sure it connects normally. Then I call the MJ number from my cell. Once it works, I then put the spoofer back in place and all seems to work then.
Sometimes I have clear dns and then restart everything to get it to work properly. just in case....from command prompt, type: ipconfig /flushdns

Awesome Hack
Thanks Stewart for this awesome hack!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got spoofing working but
1. The caller id name is whoever the number belongs to and not what I put in
2. If I call a number and get disconnected and call back my real number shows up some times
Is that normal?
Editing the hosts file is very easy, I would write a how to but it would get buried instantly. We need a MJ wiki!!!

A name is not sent with a call. The terminating carrier uses the number sent to look up the name in a database. If you are using spoofing responsibly, the number will be one that you own and if its carrier supports it, your name will be displayed.Mjhopeful wrote:The caller id name is whoever the number belongs to and not what I put in
MJ uses several carriers to terminate their calls; some may not support spoofing or may intentionally block it.Mjhopeful wrote:If I call a number and get disconnected and call back my real number shows up some times

i cant get it working
I have tried everything I can think of.
I am running vista 32.
Here is what i have done.
I tried downloading .net but vista said i already had it.
I downloaded and installed perl
I have edited the host file trying both nashville and newark
I dont know if i need to change the magicjack proxy or local magicjack ip. All i get when i call my cell phone is my actual magicjack number. Since i live in Canada and cannot get a local number I want to spoof my cell phone number.
Please tell me what i am missing???
Thanks

spoofing cell phone
i have tried that before with another number. The thing is, your cell phone realizes that it is not itself and picks up the actual number. one time I had gizmoproject caller spoofing and spoofed my friends cell phone number. i called myself and it picked up as his number. then i called him direct on his cell phone and the spoof did not work

I tried spoofing another number - same result.
Anyone have any ideas?

Has anybody tried setting up the spoofing on x-lite. I have been trying for while It just doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried setting the proxy to 127.0.0.1:5070 in xlite, In the spoofer I set It the local mj ip to 127.0.0.1 the program just crashes when xlite tries to connect
By the way the spoofer works great when I’m using the mj software.
When I’m using xlite with the proxy set to proxy1.nashville.talk4free.com:5070 it works perfectly but of course it send out my real mj #

After seeing this, I'm looking to buy a MagicJack - I often travel, and if calling a client, it will be nice to have my business number ring their caller ID, and have my business number forwarded to my MJ.
However...
Any idea if there are issues with the new hardware that will/does prevent this? Also, I was considering buying MagicJack off a third party website, that displays it's product picture. Does anyone know what the packaging looks like for the new versions? (If it is even different).
Thanks!
