Yeah, I finally bit the bullet and had to upgrade too. And, yes, the CID spoofing still works if you modify your hosts file on your mJ computer to point to another computer on your LAN, and run CIDSpoofer on that computer.
I'm doing it with 2 different mJs, one at work and one at home.
What sucks is that the ThinClient now isn't a "single machine solution" anymore, which I was hoping to make it...
The only other question is: I remember a buddy one time running some DOS commands to "bind" another IP address to a machine that already had an IP address set up normally. Does anybody know anything about this? PERHAPS, one could give the single machine 2 IP addresses and use the hosts file to route back to the same machine, bypassing the need for another true machine on the network in order to spoof...

I tried running the spoofer on a second machine but I didn't know I had to modify the hosts file on the TC. What entry are you putting on the TC? Do you point the proxy1.XXXXXX host that you are currently using for MagicJack to the IP of the machine running the spoofer?GuyOnTheAir wrote:Yeah, I finally bit the bullet and had to upgrade too. Example (TC Hosts file)
192.168.1.10 proxy1.Philadelphia

I figured this out today but its a pain in the butt. I'm using the latest upgrade from magicjack. what I do is use the first original spoofer and add all the proxy servers to my host file. When you do this it doesn't spoof unless you dial in this format *675*55-111-1111 (*67-555-111-1111) then you will notice that you cant hear the other end and they cant hear you. So When you dial out using the format above press any number on your soft phone and hit send it will start dialing then hit end and now you can hear both ends of the lines. Kinda complicated but nice if you just spoof every once in a while.

Yep, that's what you do. You also have to edit the fields in the spoofer to know about this, on the machine running the spoofer. I still use Spoofer 1.1.Delta-9 wrote:I tried running the spoofer on a second machine but I didn't know I had to modify the hosts file on the TC. What entry are you putting on the TC? magicJack Proxy: is still the IP address of the proxy you're using.
Local magicJack IP: is the IP address of the computer with the mJ.
And no, teddy_b, using the actual IP address of your computer doesn't seem to work. It still "knows" what you're trying to do. That's why I think the only way might be to "bind" another IP address to the computer that the mJ softphone won't realize is still the same machine. But, I just don't know how to do that.
Thanks for the tip--
My CID spoofing is working again.
I set "proxy1.philadelphia.talk4free.com" in the hosts table on my ThinClient to point to the IP address of my regular XP box (192.168.1.10).
I then ran the spoofer software on my XP PC and setup the software to point to the IP address of my ThinClient (192.168.1.195) running the magicJack software.
I tested using this MCI phone number 800-444-4444. And it read back my spoofed CID number from the software. When I call my cell phone I have to dial the number as *678*00-444-4444

I am getting the error that the application failed to initialize properly. I have downloaded it a second time with the same results. Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

Look at that. Now its working fine again. Didn't think about trying that. It even worked when I called my cell phone w/o the extra asterisks (*67 X*). I usually spoof my MJ number as my cell phone number so people will answer the phone since I don't really distribute my MJ number. When I called my cell phone this morning to figure out where I left it I didn't dial the *67 X* and the call went straight to my cell phone voice mail. I actually had to jump on the computer and change the spoofed number so my cell phone would ring. (Since Verizon thinks I am calling myself from the cell phone to check my voicemail).GuyOnTheAir wrote:Mine is all still working fine, Delta. You might want to simply quite the spoofer software on your machine and restart the spoofer software. Sometimes that solves connection issues.
I'll remember this in the future if I have connection problems. Though that can be problematic if it loses connection fairly frequently. I guess we will see how often it occurs.
does this work or is this like fat loss in a pill gimmick
I Give up!
Ive read through countless pages of giberish!!! ugh stay on Fuc%*ing topic Please!
All I am trying to do is
A) Get spoofing to work on MagicJack. (nothing fancy just the stupid usb dongle and a phone and the magicjack app )
B) Or just get my # to appear blocked when calling people.
So Ive done the following modified most hosts file to reflect these 2 entries
127.0.0.1 proxy1.nashville.talk4free.com
0.0.0.0 upgrade.talk4free.com
What else, I made sure of course the file is saved i even did a successful ping. well the upgrade part which comes up as destination unknown thats fine. I added that incase the spoofer needed that entry?. Ive restarted Magicjack and also called my Grandcentral # with no luck my # keeps being displayed. So Ive also tried dialing #'s such as *67 310-555-1212 Ive even tried a *671*310-555-1212 and also *673*10-555-1212 . So ive definetly ruled out *67 doesnt do diddly squat.
Ive kept the app Caller id Spoofer 1.1 running applied also closed. Did not make any difference what so ever. So Does this work at all???.
again nothing fancy im not using any fancy routers or nothing so I am wondering am i missing a step somewhere out of these 28 some odd pages or so. The only thing im lost is the magicjack proxy ip is already in there. I am wondering is that a value i need to change to something else?. Local magicjack ip is set to loop back 127.0.0.1
Lastly im in california I have no idea what talk4free thing im supposed to use.
Any insight or specific guides would be appreciated.
Cheers

Its not good form to use your first post to complain about the forum. Everyone has the same struggles as you and it seems magicjack is constantly tweaking the software which makes something that worked last week not work exactly the same today, keep that in mind.
As detailed in the above posts people who had the spoofer software working correctly on the same machine as the magicjack application recently started running into problems (for whatever reason, myself included). Since I have a ThinClient and a regular XP machine, I now run the spoofer software on my regular XP machine. And my spoofer software is working!
You do need to figure out which proxy your magicjack application is using (or you can just list them all in the hosts file of the machine running the magicjack software) and point that proxy to the IP address of the machine running the spoofer software.
For example -- as I posted above.
"I set "proxy1.philadelphia.talk4free.com" in the hosts table on my ThinClient to point to the IP address of my regular XP box (192.168.1.10).
I then ran the spoofer software on my XP PC and setup the software to point to the IP address of my ThinClient (192.168.1.195) running the magicJack software. "

sniper123... unless you have two machines on which to run the CID spoofer and to point to a remote host file, the spoofer is probably not going to work for you. Although I have read posts where uses say it is still working for them, as you've pointed out, this is a long, convoluted sticky and I can't be sure of the time line.
All I know is, I've tried to reinstall the retrograde and modify the hosts file to prevent it from upgrading with zero success. I once posted that for all the time I've spent fooling around trying to make it work, I would have been better off to buy minutes from one of the commercial spoofing providers. And, of course, that would be morally wrong to pay.

Another person with trouble.
Hi, so I've read through these pages and got the script way at the top which is from 2007. I have net version 2.0 and everything comes up working for me. My problem is when I dial out I get some strange tones and a man saying "Ymax, your test was succsesful" and brings me back to a dial tone. When I then dial my # is routed normally and there is no spoof number. Is this even still working because of the newer posts saying you need two machines etc? I'm using XP, SP3, MJ Ver 1, net 2.0, spoofer and I get no error messages on the computer, just the strange "test" man.
Re: does this work or is this like fat loss in a pill gimmic
He was kinda rude. I think he really really wanted to get the spoofing thing to work. And now he gave up. Well im not giving up just yet. Me I couldn't get spoofing to work on my magic jack either. I think the real problem is theres something im not doing right and possibly the same for the other guy. I'm not saying thats for sure the problem, but its possible. Can a step by step spoofing installation demo VIDEO be made for here and maybe even some trouble shooting videos too if thats not too much much to ask? But mainly right now is to get the ball rolling first and post a spoofing installation demo video if its not too much trouble? Then someone can post the weblink on here for us to watch the video. It would sure help alot and be very appreciated.sniper123 wrote:I Give up!

I just got my mj and I'm not as computer savy as I would like to be. Hence, awaiting a simple software that is user friendly and does the job of spoofing on one machine. Big ups too Stewart and MagicHack for the first sucessful mj spoofer (which i did not have the privilage of utilizing.) As for all the guys out there working on the next mj spoofer, keep up the good work and I look forward to all the added features mentioned by MagicHack back in '07:
*a windows installer to edit the host file for you
*run as a service automatically
*spoof the user agent string (in case you are using an ATA)
*other features you want/need?

Re: does this work or is this like fat loss in a pill gimmic
Im not really rude I read 28 pages and to still be puzzled. So it boils down to 2 things, I need 2 computers running this deal. See i was not even aware. I thought I could just nick it with having one machine one app one magicjack dongle with the correct modding of the hosts and I would be good. Turns out I was wrong. So I will wait for someone or something to invent a method in which you can spoof from one pc.

Hi delta thanks for clearing that up I have 2 pc's not on a lan, but I ccan try that sometime. As far as listening to hosts hmm I dont even know hich servers its listening to. I havent installed wireshark i thought it would be a simple netstat or something, and I totally agree with you darkman. Convuluted sticky for yet something that should have a few bullet points / mods to it. rather than someone talk about sip and whats a good brand to buy.

Well this will certainly put more pressure to have area codes available. The primary reason folks used the spoofer was so that their callback number would be local to where they are.
We'll see how this pans out for MJ once folks realise they have no means of working around MJ's short comings any longer.

Sad Times Ahead for this Obamanation !!!! Psalms 109:8
Does anyone know if magic jack purposely changed their software just so the spoofing wouldn't work with it anymore? And if they did, why would they wanna take that benefit away from their customers? Yea cause if owned magic jack company my self, i'd keep the spoofing working to like gain more customers, you know. Yea I just don't understand why they cut the spoofing off or if they even did it purposely just to stop spoofing from happening or not.
While I loved being able to spoof, given that I always want people to return calls to my mobile I think its obvious why MJ would not want to allow this ability.guy888xxx wrote:Does anyone know if magic jack purposely changed their software just so the spoofing wouldn't work with it anymore? While most of us here will use it responsibly, caller-id spoofing can easily be used for shady purposes.
From what I understand of the convoluted business model that is MagicJack, the idea is that they would eventually be making money on people calling you. By collecting the CID information of the people that call you, the idea would be to target you with specific advertising. If you always list your cell phone via spoofing your MagicJack's calls, they would ultimately not be able to have those calls in their database.
I can understand why they don't want spoofing to work.

Ok, here's a "dumb question" (actually two) that may have been asked before so bear with me...
First, is it still possible to block caller ID completely so that even if we can't spoof we can at least prevent the magicjack number from going out? Since I use GrandCentral at least this would prevent confusion among people I call out with Magicjack but want to call me back on my GrandCentral number.
Second, I understand that it is possible to use a different VOIP box (such as an old Sunrocket box) in place of the Magicjack dongle, and if so would it still be possible to spoof the number I wish to show up on caller ID with this method? I suspect the answer is "no" but thought I'd ask anyway.
Oh, one last question (so shoot me - I asked three instead of two, hehe!) ... Has anybody contacted "The Powers That Be" at Magicjack to ask whether they'd ever officially support spoofing within their own system? I would think that if they allowed users to officially enter the number they'd like to send out to caller ID (assuming proof that it actually belonged to us) they would have a huge opportunity to sell the service to people who might otherwise balk at being unable to send out the caller ID number everyone they called already knew.
Thanks in advance for the answers to these questions!
Regards,
Steve

The world is round ... we'll get there!
One thing I was using the spoofer for was this:
Set spoofer to someones cell#.
Call same cell # from MagicJack phone.
If they have no password set (which 99% of people don't) to access their voicemail, you get into their voicemail! Since most people don't want to have to enter a password from their own personal cell phone, they don't have a password set. This worked even on a VIP I was looking after.

Animal99... depending on your reasons, i.e. how determined you are, I suspect one of the commercial services would allow you to do the same thing. I checked out their FAQ's and it said the spoofed number would show up as the incoming calling number on their bill, so it *should* work, although I'm not curious enough to find out.Animal99 wrote:One thing I was using the spoofer for was this:

My real interest in the CID spoofer, like most I'm sure, was to send out a recognized CID so the person answering would pick up. For more nefarious motives, 10 cents a minute is probably pretty cheap.
Okay so it looks like this spoof thing won't be working now. So i was woundering what was everyones personal reason for using the spoofing services, for those who don't mind sharing ur great experiences with it. I heard so many reasons for using the spoofing like some main ones i heard was calling into other ppls voicemails like that guy just recently stated, lol. I also heard ppl use the spoofing service to get unlimited free trails from phone dating chat lines. Then theres the prank calls reasons and so many more other reasons.
Anyways let me know yalls personal reasons

IMO, I think most folks want it for the same reason I do. I have two MJ's with different area codes and a third for my cell phone. I like to use the MJ to make outgoing calls to 1.) save my *anytime* minutes and 2.) to keep my cell phone free, since it's a pain to switch calls on my cell in the middle of a conversation.
Sooo... when I call out on the MJ and spoof my phone number, my friends and family recognize the number and know who's calling. If I just don't want someone to know who it is, I use my one MJ with an out-of-the-area code. I get a lot of telemarketing calls with numbers I don't recognize or that are blocked, so I usually call them back from my MJ to find out who it is.
I loved the CID spoofer when it worked, but I put way too much time into it fooling around and tweaking it. For just plain vanilla spoofing, I think I would invest ten bucks into a commercial service.

yeah ditto, i knew about the cell voicemail trick - i think i posted it somewhere in the first 5 pages of this 30 page thread but i would never be bothered... i basically used it so people would see my cell when i called them, know it was me
the bad thing is that i have verizon and if i called someone with verizon they would think we were talking for free (unlimited verizon to verizon) but i am not sure if verizon's billing system based the charge on the caller id number they saw or where the call was actually coming from

Well, just do what I've told all my friends and family members. Add my MJ # to their cells and now they know it is me....that is one way to have to not have the spoofer. I used the spoofer for that same reason, but since it quit, I've had to tell the people I'm calling to just add my MJ#.Darkman90808 wrote: Sooo... when I call out on the MJ and spoof my phone number, my friends and family recognize the number and know who's calling.
Also, I use my MJ to call Canada. I do Forex trading and there are several people that I talk to in Canada about different strategies. My cell is Sprint and I can't call Canada without adding the Canada service for 10 bucks a month...To me, its not worth it since it is a North American 1-### calling code.

Unfortunately, the folks at YMAX have no-op'ed the essential commands to allow numbers to be spoofed. They did this on the server side so, unless you have access to their system, CID spoofing is a thing of the past. Look for them to offer it as an optional service along with BYOD, LNP, changing rings before voicemail picks up, and other long awaited goodiesonlinepcfun wrote:Do you think it's possible to spoof in Asterisk?
I am about to setup Asterisk on my ASUS 500W router soon. Can you provide me with any links that you found about spoofing in Asterisk?

Am I missing somthing? I am using the MagicJack USB adapter. Am I supposed to run the EXE on the same machine or on a seperate pc or what? Thank-

I tried to follow the directions for the perl script but I never used Perl and I need some help. I first downloaded and installed the MSI package from ActivePerl 5.10.0.1004 using the link provided on the forum page. I have Windows 2000 with IE 7 and tried to save the script with a .pl extension using Notepad. Upon trying to open it using IE I was asked to either run it or save. I chose to run it (later on I saved and ran too) and a command window came up. But I can't type anything at all. My keyboard is definitely working but it seems to be disabled when it comes to typing in the command window. I should point out that I can open the command window with start and then run and type in it without a problem. What am I doing wrong then?
