Thanks dims24 and HolmanGT,

I'm off to Walmart and or Staples to buy a PNY flash drive as I have no patience either. Still waiting for my Transcends Flash Modules.... :x

Sandisk seem to work ok as well for the USB DOK. I used a non-U3 1GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro with no problems.

I believe mine had U3 at one time and I ran the utility on it to remove U3, which I personally can't stand.

Bought a PNY 1GB flash drive at Staples. And less than 30 mins later I have sucessfully installed image to t5700! :D

Hold on..... as I'm writing this I glance over to the TC screen and see I have an error. Its a Windows Product Activation error. A problem is preventing windows from accuratley checking the license for this computer.

Hopefully its because I forgot to connect the cat5 cable to the router! :o

Have to run out for some baseball fun this afternoon...(nephew's Little League)...can't wait to get back.

clinktd did you get your problem solved? I can confirm that I have removed the "Multiple Components" on all three of my T5710's will no I'll effects.

As to the Sygate security I have removed it on two machines and left it on another. It is IMHO better than Windows Firewall but you do have to configure it so it is less of a PnP solution to attacks. I may reinstall it on the two I removed it from.

So I suspect the problem is not really related to either of these things.

Did you per chance see any messages like the following during your attempts:

The file 'usbccgp.sys" on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed.

The file 'USBAUDIO.sys" on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed.

They want to be located in C:\Windows\system32\drivers If they are not there then you should be able to find them in one of the perhaps several sub directories of C:\Windows\system32\ReInstallBackups

Just run Search to locate them and copy them to C:\Windows\system32\drivers

Or just copy them over from a full xp system.

Then try reinstalling MJ with Sygate disabled if you still have it installed.

VaHam,

Well I don't know yet - I am current on his machine by remote.

He has a broken YMAX driver that I am trying to fix right now.

I wasn't sure abut the Multiple, so I was just going to error on the safe side.

I will let you know if I get it goin by remote. Thanks for the input.

HolmanGT,

I just updated my thread with speed test comparisons between my 133x Sony CF, the stock 256MB DOM and the Transcend 1GB DOM. The Transcend has read speeds about 3x that of the stock DOM. My 133x CF was almost twice as fast as the stock 256MB DOM.

Back from game (nephew's team won in extra innings)...

I've formatted and re flashed a few times now. I still get stuck at - Windows Product Activation error. A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80070002

I've read through the thread and didn't see anyone else having this problem. Any guess on what I'm doing wrong?

The only thing I can think of is if you've flashed with the wrong version of XPe. Like if you flashed a copy of XPe for a different model. I see you listed a t5700, so make sure you aren't flashing a T5710 image on it.

I've seen that error with people who have tried flashing an OEM copy (ie Dell) of XP on a different manufacturer's PC. The Dell copy of XP is coded to look for certain SLIC data in the ROM and if its there, it automatically activates. If not, it requires activation.

EDIT: You might check out this Microsoft KB that mentions the same error number you are getting

It was listed on ebay as a t5700. I checked the BIOS and it is a 5700 . The flash file I'm using is sp28963.exe (142 MB). I did check out the error code and did see that knowledge base listing. I was hoping it was something simple. I guess now I'll go back and read it and see what I can come up with. Thanks...

Tip for MJ while keeping Sygate Security

Post by VaHam »

Just disable Sygate while you install MJ the first time. Then after it is installed go to c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator from there unhide the "Application Data" directory just the directory itself you don't need to unhide any of it's sub directories.

Once you have done that you can go into Sygate "Tools", "Advanced Rules" and add a rule to allow all traffic for magicJack. Just click on add then enter some name like "magicJack" for the description and select the "Allow this traffic" radio button. The go to "Applications" tab and click on browse. Then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe This will allow magicJack access thru the Sygate firewall.

Oh and don't forget to commit your changes!

I just went to HP's site and see that. I'm downloading it now. I downloaded the other because it was in VaHam's instructions -
Reflashing with the Latest Xpe Operating System

1) Download onto your desktop computer HP’s XPe factory image for T5710 (was SP36064.exe at the time of this writing). For the t5700 SP28963.exe
Thanks DasBesteIT, if it works then EXCELLENT 1st POST!

No go on the different flash...same issue.

Went in to registry as Knowledge Base article says to erase these entries but they aren't there -
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

drive letters were all right too. I have to go spend some quality time with the wife now. I get back to it later when she goes to bed.

well I had a problem with installing the XPe after I put in the new 1gig flash drive. dos would start up and then I would get an error cuz XPe was looking for something on the flash drive and couldn't find it.....

The problem was....drum roll plez....

I didn't push the new flash drive all the way down on to the pins....once I made sure the flash was INSTALLED properly, ZOOM! XPe loaded.

So maybe you need to open up the TC and make sure the flash is seated all the way down. Just a thought.

I had the same issue with the magic jack not not letting me use the phone... so I put in a 512 ram and did the magic fix all is well.... I believe it has something to do with the usb drivers and the fact that it needs more memory than we think when it is installing.... I had analogx's maxmem running and it was constantly running out of memory....I did uninstall the extra stuff also including sygate.
DO NOT ENABLE VIRTUAL MEMORY!!! I did this and had to reflash... also it will most likely destroy your flash unit over time... due to the constant writes.

the correct version for java is 5 rev. 14 for magic jack.

also I am sure the magic recover utility will work to get the magicjack working without having to get a 512 ram unit..... I did not know that it exsisted before I read the post about it. I dont know where it is though.

BTW the Magicjack is working better that ever on the thin client....

Thank you all for this

...just what I needed another(expensive)hobby...lol

installing the memory upgrade for 5710

Post by dims24 »

Hi again.....
Got my 512mb memory stick today.

The stick is so close to the side of the chassis, I'm not shure I can get the old stick out and the new one in.

So I need some advice..... Do I need to tear the whole Thin Client apart to slide the memory in place?
Or is it ok to slide the memory in at an angle without taking things apart?
Thanks, Mike

Pull the two metal retaining rails apart and pull the top of the memory up. Then slide it out. The new memory goes in the same way only reverse.

I downloaded the version on the HP site (here) but its an older version of 5 (rev 9 I believe). After installing it, I went to the magicfix website and it asked me to install 5 rev 14, which I accepted and it did it for me.

I would suggest you try going to the magicfix page on magicjack's website and see if has you install like it did me.

EDIT: Here is a link to rev 14 - LINK

If you can't get it to work, let me know because there is a hack that will probably work. However, I would suggest you PM me for the link because its actually a crack for windows activation which this unit should not need but yours does for some reason. I would post it here, but I don't know this board's policy on things like it and I don't want to violate any of its rules.

I made an image of my 5710 and put it in vmware so I could play around with it in a virtual environment on my main PC. I got an activation error because it was running on different hardware than it was supposed to. I used this hack I mentioned to bypass that check and it runs fine in vmware for me.

My apologies bneuman! I am not sure how I got that link to the earlier version of the operating system flash for the 5700. I went back and sure enough it was not the latest. I have gone back and edited my post to reflect the sp29705.exe version so hopefully no one else will be led astray.

VaHam,

No problem on the flash image file. (still not having any luck). I also noticed in your restore.bat file that there might be a problem. When I created the flash file on my DOK the file name was flash.IMG. In the restore.bat file you have:
IBR.EXE -dok -buffer:127 flash.IBR HD1
I had to change flash.IBR to flash.IMG to get it to work. I see the same thing in the capture.bat file. Just a heads up....

Yes Bill they are different than the filenames that HP uses. That way you can't overwrite an original HP flash file. The capture.bat writes it's data to flash.ibr and restore reads that file to reflash the TC with when you create your own image file after you have the setup the way you like.

If your just loading a stock HP image onto the TC then it should autostart into autoexec.bat which is written by HP and uses the flash.img.

Do you have?:

What do you have here?:

Full XP Install

Post by stroths »

I decided to give a full copy of XP a try again with my 1gb Trasncend DOM. TinyXP didn't want to cooperate due to the space it needed to install temporary files on install. I found a distro of XP called Stripped to the Bone edition. This version has all the basics including Internet Explorer which many small distros remove. I have it fully installed at about 450mb. I still have to install Java and .net which will add about another 150mb to it. I disabled most of the services I didn't want running and got it down to about 48mb ram usage. I ended up pushing that up by installing a 64mb ramdrive for my temporary files.

This distro is very fast and about on par with the stock XPe. Of course I also have the EWF driver loaded up to minimize drive writes.

The stock XPe is pretty damn slick, but I wanted a little more tweakability and this fits the bill. I can't stress enough though for people wanting to install XP to do yourself a favor and don't try installing on anything less than 2GB. Its possible on 1GB and even 512MB if you are very patient and skilled, but its not worth the hassle to most.

Another tip is to stay away from .Net 3.5 or 3.0 for that matter. 3.5 takes up about 150mb and 3.0 is around 100mb I believe. I have settled with 2.0sp1 because its about 50mb install and will cover most .net apps.

and both C: and D:

Ok am I the only one that has gotten this error? A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x80070002.
It happens after Windows is installed and loads users personal settings.
The t5700 I have was bought off ebay. It was pulled from a corporate environment. 1GHZ, 256ram and NO flash Module. I have installed a 2Gig SanDisk Extreme III Compact flash.

My question to the experts is, If we have the same hardware and use the same software why is this error coming up? I've searched through the BIOS and don't see anything that jumps out. Any one have any suggestions? I'm really frustrated... I have another t5700 733Mhz, 256/256 coming this Thursday. Also 2 - 512 Transcends Flash Modules. If the next one gives me the same problems its all going out in the trash!

bneuman,

When you double click my computer, does the flash drive show up as "removable drive" or something like "local disk"?

It never gets that far. After error click on ok and it goes into a loop. loading personal settings -> click ok to error -> log off -> load personal settings -> error .....over and over.

Haven't checked that in safe mode.

Do you have another stick of RAM you can put in? If so, put it in and do a fresh flash. If all goes well then it might be a bad stick of ram.

I am guessing stroths is on the right track the CF is probably marked as removable and that is the problem. stroths posted some info on fixing that. It might be worth looking into that fix.

I have 2 - CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) that I tried. Both freeze at the HP screen. Pressing Tab, F10 or F12 does nothing. I don't have any other 200 pin so-dimms to try.

Ive been searching with no luck so far for the Sandisk ATCFWCHG utilty...

compact flash option

Post by bneuman »

Quick Question - Have you tried modding a hp T5700 or hp t5710 with a compact flash card? If you have, what brand and size of compact flash did you SUCCESSFULLY use?

I've just read that the ATCFWCHG utilty will not work on the SanDisk Extreme III cards! Also that the Extreme III cards can't be made to read - fixed disk. Of course this is what I've been using (unsuccessfully)

PLEASE answer the above questions so I can get an idea of what I will try next. THANKS

On my 5700, I have a Sony 2GB 133X Compact Flash (NCFC2G). I had to run the ATCFWCHG utility on it, but everything else worked fine. My 5710 has the disk on module, but I don't think it would have any issues with compact flash if I would have gone that route.

My suggestion at this point would be to wait until your new thin client gets in. Try the 256mb disk on module that comes with it on your 5700. If it flashes fine then its something with either your CF or your CF adapter.

If you do get everything going, but have the removable disk issue, you can try out this method which tricks XP into thinking its fixed. It won't work for you now because you need to install the drivers once XP boots up.

I should have the t5700 256/256 on Thursday. Also Thursday I should be getting a couple 512Meg transcend modules. More toys to play with. I will try your suggestion first. I think I'm going out tomorrow to pick up a cheap 1 gig CF (NOT SANDISK!) to see if it will work. Thanks for sticking with me, stroths.

[5/21/08] UPDATE

I went out today and purchased a 1G Toshiba compact flash card (THNCF1G02QG) at my local Sams Club. Flashed it and windows BOOTED UP! Hooray! Based on my experience if you go for the compact flash option I can say that you should stay away from the SanDisk Extreme III cards.

But of course things never go without a hitch....after logging in as Administrator I go to control panel and click on EWF Configuration and I get this error:

RUNDLL
An exception occured while trying to run
"C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL
"C:\Windows\system32\ewfcpl.cpl", EWF Configuration"

any ideas?

Once working, how to deal with touch-tone in automated sys?

Post by mohoelx »

Hi all -

Been following this thread and may do this someday, but currently no need as I have a "server" that is up 24x7 anyway, and have my MJ plugged into it, with a corded phone from it to my office desk. This may be a slight rabbit-trail but have y'all figured out how to deal with touch-tone interfaces yet? In post http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/erro ... t1558.html
it is identified as a 'known problem' and work-around is to use soft-phone or keyboard when entering digits like passcodes, but obviously that will not work for me with my "server" downstairs in a closet.

It seemed to me that it would not work too well for the HP TC crowd either, and was wondering if y'all have come up with a workaround besides using the softphone?

Again, the problem is after calling an automated system (like say conference bridge or banking system) when you are prompted to enter digits, they don't work when entered by the physical phone's keypad.

mohoelx,

For the Thin Clients my work around it TeamView a remote access client and thru it access the Softphone. It should work just as well with your server.

Just Google TeamView, it is free for non commercial use and if you fine yourself in a gray area there is always DameWare (at a much more modest price) and for free all the way around you could use VNC.

Glad that's all it was. It possible that your CF adapter might not like the extreme III as well.

Regarding the error, I did not run into that. However, you don't need the control panel to work with EWF. You should have a green lock in your tray area near the clock. Right click that and you do most of what you want (enable, commit, etc)

You can also do it via a command prompt

To commit
ewfmgr c: -commit

To commit changes and disable the EWF on the fly
ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable -live

To enable EWF on next boot
ewfmgr c: -enable

you can type ewfmgr /? to find out all the different options.

Since I run a full version of XP with EWF added in, I have shortcuts setup for commit, enable, status, etc on my desktop.

stroths,

I think bneuman is running a 5700 and I don't believe they have the green lock int he task bar.

Also on all the adapters that I picked up they ALL had a disclaimer about compatibility with CF IIIs. The all said OK to Is and IIs but no to the IIIs. I don't have a clue what the difference is but obviously more than just speed.

HolmanGT,

I bought this adapter card:
StarTech IDE441CF IDE 44-Pin to Compact Flash Adapter

I would of bet my life that it wasn't the adapter card and then after your posting I went back and read the spec's on the card:

Cards Supported: Compact Flash Type I, II, and MicroDrive
NOTE: Hot swapping not supported

Both stroths and you pointed this out. If I only had learnt to reed in skool

You are correct, I have a 5700. In the task bar is what looks like a yellow lock with a big red X through it. For some reason EWF isn't loading. When mousing over the red x it says, "error getting EWF status"

At the command prompt I try:
ewfmgr C: -enable - I get: unable to find an EWF volume
ewfmgr C: -all - I get: unable to find any protected volume

I've read something about I have to delete the EWF overlay partition (partition 1, type 45) not sure about this.....

Mike,

Thanks...The thing is I really don't have any patience. I still have a couple issues to work out. I have another 5700 and DOM's coming tomorrow...more fun!
