Installed stroths t5700 custom flash version 1.0 per instructions on (2) hp t5700's. Both have a Transcends 1Gb DOM and 512Mb ram. Installs were relatively painless but of course I have problems. I'll list them...
1. Not sure if the updated fix works or not but in the tray there is a yellow lock with a big red X through it. Mouse over it an it says EWF status unknown. (on both 5700's)
2. Plugging in Magicjack and I get the windows Found New Hardware Box and it doesn't find software to install. Cancel it and MJ doesn't do anything. Go to magicfix and it installs MJ and softphone works. Reboot and we are back at found new hardware. (maybe I didn't commit) (both 5700's)
3. Softphone won't allow me to switch to phone (I have a cordless phone plugged into it) (both 5700's)
4. One 5700 won't allow me into the BIOS because it password protected. I have no idea of the password. I bought it with 192/256, upgraded to 512/256 and reflashed and the BIOS password was not there. Now with stroths ver 1.0 the password requirement is back.

1. Click the "EWF Status" link on the desktop. If it has "State ENABLED" then its working. That lock icon is brought up by a utility by HP that checks to see if EWF running, but doesn't seem to work correctly after cloning. If you want, you can right click on my computer and choose services. Go to the properties of EWF Status Service, stop it then disable it for startup.bneuman wrote:Installed stroths t5700 custom flash version 1.0 per instructions on (2) hp t5700's. 2. Haven't had a chance to test it too well just yet. Prior to a reboot, make sure you double click the "Commit EWF" green icon on the desktop.
3. Haven't had a chance to test that yet
4. Unplug the t5700 and remove the battery. Wait a minute and replace the battery. Hook the power back up and see if that resets the cmos and removes the password.

1. It is working. I also disabled EWF Status Service on startup. I don't like seeing that big red X.stroths wrote: 1. Click the "EWF Status" link on the desktop. 2. Installed MJ via magicfix and did a commit and rebooted. MJ came up and started loading then the 2 windows popped up looking for the audio files. I have the 2 files somewhere and will take care of that tomorrow after work.
3. Ok...that one is frustrating
4. Took battery out for 5 minutes and powered up and no BIOS password request
Looks like just #3 and I've got a nice stable system. Thanks for all your hard work and help! I forgot to mention that with the 1Gb DOM and 512Mb ram things are nice and fast!! Thanks again.
UPDATE
Installed the missing files, committed, rebooted and MJ started up fine. Now the option for the phone works too. I can use the softphone or the cordless phone....

I figured out what why the EWF Status Service didn't work with my first release. There is a hidden partition that I did not have in the image which is very small (64k) and holds some data regarding the EWF status. It's not needed for EWF to function, but its needed for that status service to work.
I have a 1.1 version coming out as soon as I upload it. This version will have the hidden partition included as well so the EWF status service will work. I also added all the required magicjack drivers, so it really is just plug and play.

Sounds great....I'll put it on my "B" unit. OK, I finish tweaking the system, so I just need to capture the image and reflash it on one of the other units to make sure it works correctly. Once I do that, I will winrar it and upload. Here are the main changes in it.
1.1
-Included hidden EWF partition which will fixes the status lock icon having a large X through it.
-Auto-fix EWF on first boot. No need to manually do it anymore.
-Installed drivers needed for Magicjack, so you just plug in yours and it’s ready to go.
-Created GUI versions of the desktop EWF icons (Commit, Enable, Disable, Status). No more DOS windows. I also built custom icons into the executables.
-Custom Wallpaper
EDIT: Until I get the image up, here is a little taste of it. These are the GUI EWF command icons I mentioned which will run fine on any of the XPE thin clients. Just follow the instructions and don't forget to commit the changes before you reboot.
I also included my custom wallpaper which is perfect for the Magicjack equipped HP thin client.

The first build I put out I named 1.0. This will have some updates, so I named it 1.1.bneuman wrote:1.1stroths wrote: 1.1

After much pain, trial and error, I got 1.1 imaged and uploaded to Rapidshare and Megaupload. If you do not have a program that will open rar archives (i.e. winrar), you can google for 7-zip which is a freeware app that will open it up.
All download info is now located HERE in the HP Thin Client modifications thread I started previously.[/quote]
I had to use a different program called CloneZilla to backup and restore 1.1, so make sure you read the instructions. Its still pretty easy to do, but the instructions are a little different.
The good news is that you can flash 1.1 using a 1gb usb flash drive (DOK) and the flashing goes a lot faster with CloneZilla. The bootup to CloneZilla does take a few minutes, but the drive imaging is a ton faster than IBR. I averaged about 3 or 4 minutes to restore an image once CloneZilla fully booted up. So maybe 5-7 minutes total from powerup to flash completion.
With any good news like this, you know there has to be a catch. Well, CloneZilla's image is not as compressible as the one ibr.exe created. Therefore, the files I uploaded are about twice as big as 1.0 on rapidshare and megaupload. It's kind of funny because once uncompressed, 1.1 is less than half the size of 1.0.

Hi Bill, thanks for the tip. I think that I have some other issue going on now, the 5700 boots from the USB and goes on for a couple of minutes then halts with a bottom line message of "Out of memory: kill process 4300 (bash) score 1351 or a child killed process 4300 (bash)".bneuman wrote:No laughing here.... it's magic. On a T5700 1GB/256.
Does 400 meg for the final usb image sound right?
If you have any suggestions, I would be very grateful, else I guess I'll try 1.0.
Thanks again.

I didn't test with 256mb RAM, so I wonder if it has something to do with the Ram disk being at 64mb. I am not sure if safemode is included in HP's build of XPe, but you might try booting into safemode if possible and reducing the ramdisk to a smaller number like 16mb.lymon wrote:Hi Bill, thanks for the tip. I don't think the 256ram is enough. I jerked around for 2 weeks setting up a 5700 512Meg/256Meg with different scenarios and I think its just to tight to get it to run right. I know you can do it because others have but its a ton of tweaking. As soon as I upgraded to 512Meg ram it was like night and day. I think the overhead in stroths rev 1.1 is too much for 256.lymon wrote: Hi Bill, thanks for the tip. Thanks for the kudos Bill. It is confirmed that my new stroths 1.2 build is compatible with the t5710 and the t5700 with the 1gb Transcend DOM. I also dropped the ramdisk down to 15mb which might help those with only 256mb ram.
I have tested this on a t5710 1.2GHz and a t5700 1Ghz and both passed with flying colors. The image is a little bigger since I had to incorporate the driver set from the 5710 and 5700 in one image. The download will be about 420mb.
If you have 1.1 working on a 5700 then there is no need to download this version as it has no improvements. I will post links once I have everything uploaded.
EDIT: Just tested it with 256mb RAM on the t5700 and it boots up fine.

stroths, thanks once again! I did go and change the ramdisk value to 15 manually in XPe, but I'm guessing the 1.1 bumps it out to 64?stroths wrote:1.2 is now up on rapidshare and and megaupload.

I intend to get 512 of ram, but bucks are tight until next week. In the mean time, I'll DL 1.2 and see how it goes. Best regards

1.0 and 1.1 are both set to 64mb. 1.2 is set to 15mb, but I would suggest pushing it to 64mb if you have 512mb RAM as its less problematic when installing software.lymon wrote:stroths, thanks once again! On a side note, I don't think this image likes it if you increase the primary storage size. I flashed it to my 2GB CF card and used gparted to increase the partition size to almost 2gb. Upon booting, it gave me errors about licensing on boot up and looped on the login screen endlessly. I ended up having to boot into safe mode and applying a registration patch to make it work correctly.
I had tried flashing to a 1gb compact flash which worked fine without the errors, so I think its either due to the size of the CF card or the fact that I increased the partition size from what it was originally. Regardless, let me know if anyone runs into this issue and I'll give you more info on the patch. I now have over a gb free disk space although I really don't need it right now
stroths.
It is not just the 5700 that is causes problems with the 10s and 20s don't like yesterdays upgrade or the version they posted today either.
Boy - I would think there are a whole lot of people out their that are very upset right about now.
PS - the old upgrade that Stewart posted is 2903 the one that has been on their WEB site for months is 2910 and you can get it here:

This is my Sharing folder so the file comes from me and is clean.

For those on the fence about a thin client, they have plenty of other uses than just for the MJ. Therefore, you won't have a paperweight if you ever ditch the MJ.
For example, you could use one as a NAS (Network Attached Server) using software like FreeNAS - http://www.freenas.org/. You would just have to plug a USB hard drive into the back of the TC, install the software and you would have a very functional NAS.
I bought the expansion bay ($30) for my t5700 and added a 2nd network card. I used it to replace my existing firewall/router hardware with something smaller. My firewall runs on monowall http://m0n0.ch/wall/
You could even fit a laptop hard drive in one of the t5700s with just a little effort and turn it into a small desktop computer. You could even setup a carpc using one of these with a laptop hard drive. It would be pretty easy to drill 4 holes in the removable metal cover that is under the plastic cover. I would suggest drilling them above the PCI slot and of course in the pattern of a standard laptop hard drive. Mount the drive on the inside of the metal cover and fasten it using the 4 screws that came with it. Put the plastic cover on the TC and its hidden.
These are just a few examples, but there are tons of uses for these because they are essentially Small Form Factor (SFF) computers.

rundll32 ewfdll.dll,ConfigureEwf and press Enter. You must type it exactly as I listed it as it is case sensitive.
Then type
ewfmgr c: -enable and then reboot and see if that fixes it.
thank you stroths that worked great.
now my problem is removing stuff mentioned in the instructions, after i install the first files for the media removal and try to run it, it says not enough space.. it apperas after everything i have about 13.3mg left on my flash drive.
UPDATE: i think i have figured out how to remove
thanks for your help again.

I finally got my TC today via FedEx. I was a little surprised at how small it actually was. I even tried to tell the FedEx guy the box wasn't big enough! LOL
When I set it up and powered it up I discovered that my unit came from CostCo and had all of their network settings & software on it. I promise I didn't write anything down.
It took me about an hour or so to get it re-flashed (factory defaults) and set up and ready for my MJ. I'll be trying that out as soon as I get home! (TC is w/ me at work, and my MJ is at home).
Thanks guys for all of the posts and tutorials!

Nytefire,
Isn't it hell to have a new toy and not be able to play with it.
I also received one with somebody's application on it and locked down, I wrestled that puppy for sever hours also, so I know how frustrated you must have been.
Good luck your going just love the thing - Please make sure you used the 2910 update that I posted here and put the host file patch that Stewart and stroths posted here also or you will be in for a very bad evening.

I have a working thin client that finally started yesterday. I don't know what to tell you at this point except to follow the setup and work arounds that have already been posted on this forum. Use "search" to find the applicable threads. That is what I did. When you can get to a point where you can be more specific as to the problem you are having, report back.
It was locked down, but I didn't wrestle at all. I already had the HP XPe flash ready to go on a DOK. First thing I did was flash it back after playing around w/ CostCo's stuff for a few minutes.HolmanGT wrote:I also received one with somebody's application on it and locked down, I wrestled that puppy for sever hours also, so I know how frustrated you must have been.

Ok, I forgot about changing the USB drivers. Took me a while to find that here in the forums. I got a little scared when I saw the BSOD.
Installed the 2910 update and committed changes and now all is working well! Thanks again for the help!

The ALI drivers bluescreen with the newer hardware version of the MJ when plugged in. Using the stock Microsoft drivers fixes that issue.mozerd wrote:Why did you have to change the USB drivers?Nytefire wrote:Ok, I forgot about changing the USB drivers.
