Does anyone have any insight as to when the 228 Area Code will be available all along the Mississippi Gulf Coast cities (e.g Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis)? I only see 601 (Hattiesburg) as being PENDING! Is there a MASTER SCHEDULE posted anywhere that shows when activation can be expected.
BTW: I live in Gulfport, but I chose the 703 (Virginia) Area Code where my company is located. Now everyone at my headquarters can call me via a local call for them, talk about CONVENIENCE!!! I love my MagicJack, and I can't sing its praises high enough. Next testing I plan to do is the use of a FAX machine through it to see how that goes.
Here's waiting for 228 in Mississippi!
Mississippi Gulf Coast Area Code - 228: WHEN?????

Roozie,
Why do you and others worry about Area codes, unless you have the Area code and prefix that is within your call area it is going to be a long distance call anyway.
Also it is pretty common for an in state long distance call to cost more that and out of state long distance call because the US Gov. doesn't have any control over the rates they charge for long distance when it doesn't cross state lines.
So even your folks at work may have to pay a long distance charge to call you unless you were lucky enough to get a prefix that is in your employer's free call area, if not it is an in-state long distance call and again can cost more than an out of state long distance call.

I would definitely like to kick my local landline phone service to the curb, so I can get rid of my local phone bills. Right now, 228 is not available in my area. I have several people who call me locally, and I do not want them dialing a 703 long distance number (the one I am using right now) just to talk to me.HolmanGT wrote:Roozie,

I am assuming that the game plan is to eventually have the MagicJack available in key areas. The entire Mississippi Gulf Coast is totally in the 228 area code. When porting becomes available, we will be able to keep the same landline phone numbers we currently use in the home and in our business. I am a very patient individual! I am simply wanting to know the overall plan and schedule for area code implementation, nothing more than that, so don't get all bent out shape about long distance charges. BTW: My 703 is active in my company's area, so I am just a local phone call away from my associates. That was stated in my initial entry above, if you have read it.
Cheers!
