Lap Top Warning: You must plug Majic Jack into USB (MJ NG)

Post by Badger »

After hours of "working with" MJ Tech support with no fix..
(I had previously used this new "Vista" OE Sys laptop once in May with MJ & it worked OK with a headset) Something has changed... from MJ

I finally tried to use a remotely AC powered USB DYNEX Hub and the error still came up - but then another window comes up for autoplay
and gives me the option with a Majic Icon to double click and "install or
run" Magic Jack - when I do this - everytime now the Magic jack will load and work either with a headset from the laptop - or a phone cord plugged into the MagicJack Device - OK!

Looks like I will have to take this device with me when traveling UFN...

I am a newbie and had seen others having this problem but could
not find where I had seen their messages to tie this info to theirs...

if I understand you right the magicjack wont load, you get the You must plug Majic Jack into USB sign?
I get this occasionally here is what I do and it has worked everytime. (i am using windows vista)
1) when you see the You must plug Majic Jack into USB sign, go ahead an unplug the magicjack from the usb.
2) wait a couple seconds and plug it back in.(the above msg should go away eventually.
3) hit the magicjack icon (shortcut) on your desktop.
the magicjack webpage will load, go ahead and close that.
4) the magicjack folder will also open, close that as well as well as install orrun" Magic Jack that you see.
5) click the magicjack icon (shortcut) again on the desktop and now the magicjack will load.

as i said about 1 out of 5 times i start my comp the magicjack wont load and this gets it loaded without having to do reinstall, run etc.
good luck.

I gave this process you reviewed a try - but it would not work with my laptop...

Using the Dynex AC powered hub works everytime..

BUT now my 1st use on a trip - I forgot to ac power the Dynex Hub and found my Majic Jack works anyhow - but not with a Direct MJ plug in - !!??

When I get home I will try the short USB 6" extender cord and see if that works as well as an unpowered dynex hub cabled to the laptop PC
USB port instead of the non-working MJ direct connect which fails for me
all the time (New Vista Gateway Laptop) - from Best Buy

I am using Vaio laptop no problem. Plug MJ and runs fine. Guess I am lucky.

The only thing I would like to find out is, if I can use my cel phone for comunication (talk and hear) instead of WOIP phone - via bluetooth.

That's it.

TIA
