Still beeping on the ATA .... ugh

Post by newtoncd »

I am pretty much at a loss.

When running magicJack on our thin client, it would beep every so often. I ran the upgrade from 6/9/09, turned down the volume on the mic/headset and that helped quite a bit.

As of last night, I finally got the Linksys ATA running (and the magicJack dongle is not plugged in). This morning, my wife just made a couple of phone calls and a few minutes into the conversation, the other party heard a beep. I really didn't expect a beep using the ATA. Apparently, the ATA version of the beep is shorter and not as long, but it is still there.

Any one have any ideas on this one?

Thanks.

Do a search in Google for annoying beep tones on VOIP. You will be surprised how long this has been going on!! WAY before MJ...

Thanks for that .... I lowered the FXS input gain from -3 to -6 (as recommended by some other users) on the ATA .... will see if that clears things up.

My ATA has an option for strict/normal, but no options to change the intervals. I have it set to strict.

I have turned the FXS input back to -14 (default is -3) and in an hour conversation, it only beeped once, so I think I am getting closer.

I wish magicJack would return my emails and address the fact that some people are still getting the beeping noise/DTMF tone. I would be using the USB dongle, but until they acknowledge there is still an issue (I realize the June fixed most of the beeping), I have to look at options.
