Forward cell phone calls to MJ?

Post by islegirl »

I was wondering if I could forward my cell phone calls to MJ so I wouldn't use up my cell phone minutes. (I have limited minutes on my cell phone). Also, if it is possible to do this, would the person calling me be charged a long distance fee since MJ does not have an area code for my state? I live in Hawaii and contacted customer support and they said they don't know when it will be available here, so if my family/friends call me, and my cell phone calls are forwarded to MJ, will it be as if they called the California area code I am using? I'm bummed that they couldn't give me a definite date for having a local area code.

Sorry, this isn't going to work the way you want it to.

Your cell phone company will still charge you for every minute you use when someone calls your cell phone, reguardless if you forward it to another telephone. If you forward your cell phone calls to a long distance number, you will be charged long distance for every call you receive and for every minute you use.

Best way to confirm this is to just call your cell phone company and ask them about call forwarding and forwarding calls to long distance numbers. I am almost certain you will be charged, unless you have a REALLY GOOD cell phone plan/cell phone company.

The person calling your cell phone number will not be charged, since they are calling a local number. Your cell phone will then forward that call to a long distance number which is the same as you calling a long distance number from your cell phone.

If you sign up for an invitation to Google Voice, when it opens to the public you will be notified and you can get yourself a local number and forward it to your magicjack. This is absolutely 100% free. You will probably get an invitation long before magicjack comes out with your areacode. I have been waiting for local areacodes for a year now and many other people have been waiting much longer then that.

UNLESS you have Verizon 10. THEN you can put your MJ# in your 10. IF someone calls your MJ# and you have it fowarded to your Cell it will show your MJ# calling. SINCE your MJ is in your 10 THEN the call shouldn't use any of your min since 10 calls are"free".

Just a thought anyway as this only works for incoming calls not outgoing. HOWEVER I do not know how GoogleVoice woks with your cell. I know all calls from GV are free when you call your own # and hit * and enter your password then hit 2. I would imagine your cell would use it's min, but I do not know for sure.
