XPe flash file for 256m Neoware e100?????

Post by n4uoo »

I have the license number on the DOM. Is there any reason I couldn't re-install some "shared" 256M flash file for this machine?

I purchased it via eBay (big surprise). It was "obviously" owned by Terminix exterminators. Cannot get into the Administrator account. I have a usable flash push-pull utility and all I need is a flash image for a clean install.

Any help here?

Regards,

n4uoo (aka Ken)

P.S. I have tried _multiple_ 256M "images" from HP's web site to no avail...

Get the ezRemote Manager Limited from the HP site and download the 256MB XPe flash. Install the ezRemote software and then the flash, have both units hooked up the the network, and you should be able to push the new flash over to the unit.

Make sure you get the Limited and not the ENTerprise version, this will run on a XP machine with no server and all that mess.

Not so sure I can do that. The machine is on a different subnet (not willing to hose up my home network to match it). I can boot USB, but apparently have not d'loaded the proper files off HP. Of the two I've tried - both report when booted that they can only be installed on HP machines :(

If only I could crack the admin account...
...OR get the right files. I think I've already tried what you mention, but will double check again this weekend...

No HP image will work on a Neoware machine, even though HP owns Neoware. To get a new image on it you have to put a Neoware image on it and there are two ways that I know of. For one of them you have to have a Neoware machine that you can copy the image from, which you don't. And the other way is to do it via ezRemote Manager.

Of course you can put in a larger DOM and use Stroth's image, that works great but you still have to get the Neoware drivers for the e100. No one has really worked with Neoware, that is why this ain't easy.

locate complete no units found...

Post by n4uoo »

OK. I enabled my DHCP server on my router. I rebooted the e100 and it acquired an address from the router: 192.168.1.10. I can at least access the internet from the TC box now!

Running eZRemote - I've tried locating units with no success. Is this because the unit is locked down and possibly configured to NOT answer ping requests (or whatever protocol is being used)?

Any further suggestions?

Thanks for your responses...

Ken

I have been able to find units by going to actions - assets -OK and it finds them

You might check your firewall, I had an issue pushing an image today to a Neoware unit.

OK, here is a third way of getting a flash on your unit. I have uploaded the Neoware USB Image Update and Retrieval Tool v2.2.2 on Rapidshare and I have included a image of the latest Neoware XPe 256Mb flash (v1.4.2). All instructions are there on how to get this flash on your unit from a USB drive. This file is 200Mb. I did not add any of the security updates due to the lack of free space.

Feedback for STxFarmer!

sooo THAAATS what it is supposed to act like!

...dude. Thanks - u_r_da_man.

I already had the flash utility - couldn't seem to get the correct image file until your last post.

_THANKS!_

I had to d/l winrar but no biggie. Now also my ezRemote finds it no problem.

Next set of questions: Now what programs do I want to delete in order to free space for MJ? Input on this is I 'may' use ezRemote, I DO use remote desktop (on a regular basis), and I did buy this for the sole purpose of running the MJ on it.

That said - I may also upgrade the RAM if that would be helpful.

Can't thank you enough. I have about 49 bucks in this thing and untold hours of keyboard time. Your last post put the finishing touches on the money and time spent. Quite helpful you were :)

I know ezRemote will not find the unit unless it has a Neoware image on the machine.

As far as changes to the system, start reading. I have been using Stroth's image and been very happy with that. I am just starting to look at modifing a Neo image to get it working as good as Stroth's. I think it is all out there in a few posts.
