There was a new message just now on my softphone-it said-"if your phone is not working TFB hahhaha-thanks for the money-see ya in Costa Rica"!-just kidding, that's for all the people who think Dans a rip off-actually the new message said something about it being fixed. They did some upgrades and now my voicemail is working better then before much more clear and easy to access. So far, their tech team has been honest with me on any problems I have. They said my voicemail would work good soon and that they were working on updates. Well, it works great and my calls are clear. I think they are working overtime to resolve all problems with this system. Dan would not sink 17 million bucks into a project just to go tits up 3 months later. The guy's going to be around a long time and this system will be getting better every day. Sure hope he gets into bringing other cheap utilities to us. I'd love cheap internet cable tv-maybe 30 bucks a year! yea!

Dan's business plan was really quite brilliant. He substantially reduced risk to himself and investors by having an instant return on investment while they work out the bugs. There are probably hundreds of thousands of MJ's out there. It is a testiment to the MJ that there are so few complaints on the various forums and boards. Everyone that owns a MJ has a computer. A huge percentage of early adopters are very computer literate and could find these forums to ask for help or complain by just googleing magicjack. But compared to the number of MJ's sold the complaints are incredibly small, which means a huge percent of people ordered the MJ, hooked it up and it just works. Sure there is going to be a small percentage that paid their $40, didn't like the product and figured for less than the price of a decent dinner for one they wouldn't have a heart attack over it not working properly and threw it in the trash, gave it to a friend or shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. All in all if Dan isn't hurt to bad by patent infringment lawsuits (I don't know if he has violated any patents) he will make hundreds of millions of dollars off this brilliant little product.

I don't (yet) have a way to tell whether or not that is true; it may well be, given that Dan has ~1,000,000 numbers. However, I'm fairly confident about my claims of ~12 new calls/second and ~1000 simultaneous calls. There is a big inconsistency here. Either:
1. Most of the Jacks are in drawers (if so, why haven't we heard lots more complaints?), or
2. MJ owners don't use the phone much (if so, why did they bother? A few extra cell minutes per month would be no big deal), or
3. The number of Jacks sold is much lower (if so, why did Dan pay for all those numbers so soon?)

Comments?

I'm guessing for a lot of people this is a second line, may only be used for travelling and many may have been sent overseas...and I'm not so sure your calculations are spot on. Your 3rd point is probably the best judge of the numbers being sold, Dan would not have bought up a million numbers if he wasn't anticipating those numbers or was approaching those numbers. I wonder if they are being publically traded in one form or another.

I'd bet that about 90% of the MJ's sold are in use at least part of the time and 10% at most are in a drawer, to be used on weekends to call across country. Some folks may give up when they hear a few clicks or echos but most of the customers are like us and using the thing everyday. I have the audio dialed in so good that it now sounds every bit as good as my old land line. I had to spend a little extra for additional hardware but well worth it. As time goes by the numbers will grow and I only hope they can keep up ok. No long waits for anything would be real nice. Anyone using a voip phone is helping the enviroment. The phone companies don't need to use alot of oil and make alot of extra cable to go to the house. How much oil would be saved if all phones and internet and maybe even tv all came in on one line. How many miles of cable would be saved by putting all communication on one line?

That is the thinking behind FIOS...however being an RF engineer I fully expect to be able to receive all those services via RF in the near future. It will be far less expensive to maintain than any terrestrially based wire of fiber optic services.

O Yea-I don't understand much about any of it but I wonder how much longer before all wireless calls are clear and have no dead zones. My current wireless phone which I never use is Virgin Mobile and the calling area is so small it's hardly worth having at all. Just to give you an idea. If I leave Portland and travel South on I-5, it works just as long as I never leave the freeway, but there is no service once off the freeway. Well, I go over the mountains to the coast alot and thats where the thing could get me out of a jam but thats where it dosen't work. The area it's needed there's no signal. So' they still have a ways to go with wireless and their audio is still not dependable either. But, it will be nice when we never need cables again.
