Customer Support Phone Number, Would You Do It?
You know what would be a good idea and better then know customer support phone number at all, if magicJack would ask some of the more technical and knowledgeable people on these forums that have a magicJack if they wanted to volunteer for technical support, keep them really high up in the loop in what is happening, give them a second phone number, and have magicJack users call them for support. That would really be awesome!
I realize nothing will beat a REAL customer support telephone line, but this has to be better then nothing at all, right?
I mean it is not a perfect solution by no means, but it is better then just the chat. So what do you all think about that?

Nothing against you, ABRGames, but, I can't think of ANYONE who would do this. Who wants to VOLUNTEER their time to get bitched at on the phone? CS jobs often go to people who are not at the forefront of what is happening, because, um, those at the forefront are making it happen, and don't wanna be whine at every chance.
So, nice idea, but I think you'd have to be pretty bored and lonely to volunteer for this.
Nothing to stop someone from posting their number here, though, I suppose.
I say, why not give all those tech chat people MJs, and create a hunt group from a number, and let their MJs ring for tech support, and let them answer in person, over a real MJ. That would be proof of the product, and a real help!

GOTA-I agree-not a job anyone would want to do for free, not even part time. Helping out here from time to time is one thing but to have people complaining that they are just not happy having to pay all of $1.50 a month to call their grandma in Nova Scotia and talk all day, would put me over the top and jack my blood pressure to danger level. The first time somebody said they wanted a full refund after having the thing for 29 days and they got an echo a few times I would explode!-I think if I was Dan, I would sell MJ with a disclaimer. It would say that there may be some technical problems from time to time and the sound and some of the features like voicemail may encounter problems from time to time as this is a new system and it's not 100% yet. If people would understand this before buying this product they would relax more and live longer. The thing is improving all the time. You can get one on one phone support if you ask for it. I did.Dan had one of his tecjh people call me to check my line before and they wanted to hear what the noises were I was reporting during the calls. So, they will do this for you. Just ask em. Tell them your number and when to call. They called me right at the set time.
100 % Not guaranteed
I, for one, can understand that I can't expect perfection from something whose service costs $20 a year and $20 (plus s&h) for the device. What irks me is the constant barrage of scripted lies from this "LivePerson" that resembles a program made in the seventies for the Commodore Pet or Radio Shack TRS80 computers of the day called "Eliza". At first it seemed like a real person but it became apparent after a while that most of the responses are based upon words you type. When you ask a direct question you rarely get a relevant response. My hunch is that I'm chatting with an outsourced agent under strict conditions and little training in a sweatshop in Asia or I'm conversing with Eliza. My bets go with the latter. I got my first MJ through a Canadian distributor called www.themagicjack.ca whose S&H charge was $10 higher but I got to talk to a human on the phone and I got the thing in a timely manner. Whether I even get the MJ that I have tried to order given doubling of orders, cancellations of orders, and timeless arguing with "Eliza LivePerson" by the time my credit card is charged once, twice, three, ... is a matter of waiting. At least themagicjack.ca delivered. It breaks up a bit but I have tried it on 3 different computers and it it is fine.

Tech Support
I have worked eight years in tech support/customer service/etc. Moreover, people are glad to reach someone who cares and is willing to try help regardless of the pressure that others bend to (such as call time). I just wish these people (if they even are-I still think LivePerson is Eliza) would do better. All I care is that I get my item as I ordered.

Not bad idea but ?
Not bad , but what if the problem is that their MJ is not working and/or making outbound calls ?
This would be a big problem to get thru to volunteer support and they would be back to chat support.
I've used chat support once so far just to ask about the registration screen, which was suppose to come up but didn't
The very helpfully told me to shut down the computer, and unplug the MJ, then restart the computer and plug the MJ back in as the back of the package text indicates. And it worked fine so I in my case I was happy with chat support thus far.
I'm making more calls today to test out and getting a few people to call me to test out.
Then I think I'll drop my Vonage phone, which is really good also in my opinion.
But I'm a cheap b***ard so I got the MJ
Happy phoning.

Nothing wrong with being cheap, Agent. I'm one of the cheapest people I know. But you always have to remember that you get what you pay for, even though I really wish I could get more than that. lol
But, it's agreed that for something you're paying $1.50/month for, you can't be TOO upset when it doesn't always work... You can barely get a burrito for $1.50. But, some people always expect perfection, or have a lot of time on their hands to whine and complain. If it doesn't work, I post here, and report outtages and such, but I also try to help people when I can. I'd rather do that than elevate my blood pressure by needlessly getting my panties in a wad...
When life hands you $199 worth of lemons for $40, make lemonade. And if you spill that lemonade, no use crying over it. You might as well relax and enjoy the afternoon anyway. At least you had SOME refreshment.
Okay, I'm whack.

I would so do this job.
First, someone would have to arrive with a case of duct tape, taser me, wrap me up in the duct tape. All of it. Next, they would have to expoxy me to a chair and anesthetize me.
Then, I would be good to go & tell everyone who called---no exceptions-- to format their drives & do a clean install of their OS and all their apps, and then I would hang up.
Let me know when I start.

Actually I wouldn't have the technical knowledge to do it and wouldn't dream of doing it for free. My service like everyone else's has been iffy lately but seems to have stabilized some. But you see a lot of replies here about "getting what you paid for"......well I don't remember seeing that on the Magic Jack site when I purchased mine. What I do remember are seeing claims that this service would be the end all in telephone service. Tons of video touting how good this service was and how many people have signed up today. So if you make the claims then deliver as promised or put up a big disclaimer as Saxman said and let people know that what they'll receive is a device that performs great sometimes, poorly sometimes, and sometimes not at all, that customer support will be a laugh (I haven't had to use it so knock on wood) but just remember you got what you paid for...LOL.
Now mind you I am happy with my purchase and hope that Magic Jack succeeds beyond all expectations but I paid my money for what I was told this device would do so I hope that my money doesn't end up being wasted (I could have used as a down payment to fill my tank with gas.... ), and personally I think Kumar should do it....what say Kumar?

Just caught this interesting post. Empirical experience tells me the "U get wut U pay for" thingy is pretty simplistic and very often not true.Jacksondale wrote:Actually I wouldn't have the technical knowledge to do it and wouldn't dream of doing it for free. iphones lanched at $600. An hour later, they lowered them to $400. Given its fragility (I do not won one and would not).....I would say apart from needing to pass the cost of R & D on to the customter....it is no way worth wut it costs even now. Another example: any given MS OS. We only roll over cauxse Gates is the shresdest, mot relentless opportuist n all of tech History. We could all live happily ever after ust on his litigation budget.
Now. let us consider the MagicJack against the iphone. The MagickJack, in its cutting edge potential.....I admit mine now works perfectly on all my systems---l is far beyond the iphone. FAR BEYOND. It is radical....a whole new paradigm. Plus, the inventor built his own network! Huge capital outlay with clear belief in his genius and vision. A BELIEF..I submit, was & is justified.
Now look at the respective prices for these two devices.....and what each might save a given consumer over time.
Also, eBay teaches us wut things are really worth: little pair of Baby Phat jeans, retail around here, close to $80.....on ebay for under $30 with shipping; a mobo I thought I needed and did not.....but replacing it was good experience, I guess (everyone said).....on ebay, at auction: under $50 with shipping....elsewhere, over $200. Low retail pricepoint....not necessarily any reflection of LESS THAN.
Read about marketing cosmetics; if those items reflected anything close to the cost of Mfg and even advertising.....many women WOULD NOT BUY THEM. To far too many, high price equals quality and cache, and women who do not own their own differential "eyes" would not go near an item BELOW A PROHIBITIVE PRICE! U think there is any real difference between drugstore nail polish and Lancome or Chanel???, TRUST ME. Same deal with ink carts.....know wut it costs to make one of those? I mean the name brand OEM ones/ U would faint.
No, the inventor of this puppy and its marketers--I now see an infomercial-....are not hobbled by the usual Wharton school business model.....they are waaaaaay beyond it!
So what's your point? Sometimes things are cheap for a reason and MJ is still very flawed and it may be another year or two before it's possible to have a dependable ,clear line with it.Ebay is a real good place to be ripped off and/or credit stolen. As far as comparing Dan the owner and inventor of MJ with Bill Gates, there are similarities. They are both inventors and both captilistic businessmen. Nothing wrong with that. It's the American dream. Build your own product from the ground up and get rich. We need more people like both of them and I would not trade my XP for any other os or my pc for any MAC. I like Microsoftware and I use MSN because Uncle Bill needs my money every month!lol I say more power to him and he is also one of the biggest donators to alot of projects world wide of all people in his tax bracket. If Dan can get this phone to go as big as he would like to see it be, he will be a very rich (er) man, and he has us to thanks for all the free beta testing and uncompleted calls we put up with. So, we are in on the ground floor of this thing. Can ya hear me?????hear me, hear me, hear me,

I got more then I paid for LOL
I like this thought about you get what you paid for.
But this is a nonsensical theory. What if you get more then you paid for, are you going to be the first to express that these guys are too cheap, and they should be charging you 50.00 bucks a month or more for their service ???
Or why not just willingly pay extra and simply put in your payment comment area I think your too cheap please increase the price because I feel guilty only paying this amount for such a great service.???
I doubt it. Most would not.
But you see how nonsensical the theory is, because it's an opinion in which in many cases has a direct correlation to the size of your wallet. The smaller the wallet the larger the complaints;and the larger the wallet, the smaller the complaints. Not always true, but many times this is true.
Basically the poor mans thinking will indicate that since I'm paying for this service even thought I don't want to pay for anything, it needs to work perfect all the time. And if it does not then I want it for free, and if I can't get it for free because I really can't afford it anyhow, then I want to tell the whole world what a crappy company it is because they hurt me or effected me somehow and now I want payback.
That is basically the mentality behind the you get what you pay for mentality which is only an opinion based on various factors one being the size of your income.
For me personally I didn't really care if it worked or not, I am happy to experiment with it and see how things go and review the device for myself.
Also keep in mind a true comparison should be evaluated with my personal experience vs what others have experienced. And within that comparison should be looking for those who have had success with the device and what equipment they have, and what internet service they are using and what bandwidth/upload/download speeds there service provides them vs those who are having problems and what equipment, internet, bandwidth, upload, download, and type of specs their system has and what is running on the system as well. If you have problems then You can't compare only your own personal experiences with some other guy who also had problems. You have to find out why someone had problems and why others are having success with the device.
Anyhow thats all I know
Happy phoneing

But seriously....as all things, the issue of how a retail price is arrived at is rich fodder for exploration. Also the issue of cavalier correlations re quality and pricepoint. Also invovles classic Oliver Stone films WALL STREET and Gordon Gekko. Also involves how to build a client base LONG TERM....also involves autonomy. Fascinating. Also involves core values and long term vision. Also adventure. Think of the Google guys in their basement or garage back in the day.
MJ may be the greatest garage band ever. Mindset is opposite Diddy and Makin the Band---also IDOL....which are about commercial Fascism and forcing humans to comport with a rigid model. Not about original genius. When she was like 14...Alicia Keys was offered major recording contract. She declined. Cause they wanted to package her and would not let her produce her own tracks. Internally, Alicia had her OWN NETWORK. Metaphorically. Just like this Dan guy.
Confusing, right?
Not to worry, just do a clean install ON yr brain. DO DYNAMIC....NOT BASIC.
That's true 86-The quality of sound coming from that phone depends alot on your own system. I've discovered what I can and can't do while using the phone. If I want a call to come in real clean and clear I stop doing all downloads and if I'm playing a game I shut it off. Anything that will use the ram and any of the resoures I shut down. The phone works with these things running but it will not be a good audio signal and it gives me interference. I've had mine for a few months now and it has been ok for the most part but I had to work on it to get it there. I moved the plug around until I found a port that sounded good. Then I installed the Hawking Broadband Booster, which made a huge difference. I downloaded the anti-echo software and installed that. It did the trick to get rid of echo. I am curious how much difference their is between cable and dsl as far as the audio quality goes. I have dsl but will be switching next year. Anyone tried both with MJ? Any difference? Also, MJ dosen't auto install at boot time like it used to. I have to install it myself. Anybody else getting this?
You said it all.. Personally, I think MJ is a great service. yes there are some flaws.. But from what I have read on these post the flaws most of the time is with the user not MJ .. sorry to say that..
However if they are going to have a technical chat service. I think the representatives from MJ should be little more knowledgeable. about their product.

Do U mean when you boot you have to hit the icon...or do you mean you have to actually install yr MJ again?
I would think, given DSL employs phone lines to begin with usually, thus limiting things, that that would impact everything as opposed to say, coaxial broadband, no?
Again, I think anyone having issues should include their system specs---including their PSU details and ram... and broadband details. I think also, having a dual core chip as I do---if only in this go-to system--or core Duo, would fix not being able to multitask without impacting the MJ.
Strikes me how challenging it must have been in evolving this device, to have to factor in so many things beyond the OS! The goal being plug and play within so many individual computers. Maybe even a glutted up start menu could impact it....how many things someone allows to load with Windows....given most are not necessary. Even having too many icons on the desktop impacts things slghtly; this is why I put most in desktop folder called "shortcuts."
Maybe even letting all the needless bells & whistles which are default in XP, the fading, etc......getting tid of those might help! I was a tester on amazing little multi function app from my now friends in china at iobit called Advanced Windows Care. they have a free version I would recommend to optimize the system, clean things up....it also has antispy module....I will get a link.
http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
They have a pro version as well; they are fab, integrity-driven guys. Get the free version, set it up, run it and see if it helps. New builds all the time and very highly rated all over the net....excellent reviews....entirely configurable and their reg cleaning module is (now)safe; their startup module, when expanded explains everything. You also have the opton when installing it to create a restore point.
Another problem could be even some app that is resource hog like Norton (Eeeeewwwwww). This is waaaaaay more complex than I could have imagined.
But someone above my pay grade would have to respond to these.
