Connecting MJ to Line 2 of a 2-line cordless system

Post by nycfonephreak »

I'd like to use MJ on line 2 of my 2-line cordless phone system. The cordless base is at the opposite end of the apartment from where the MJ computer is located. I had line 2 disconnected by the Telco about 4 months ago, so, it's now a dead line.

I still have some wired jacks in the room near the computer. Some are wired normally, with line 1 on the red and green and line 2 on the yellow and black. Others were used for computer modems (dialing on line 2) with the yellow and black wires connected to the red and green terminals.

If I connect the MJ to one of these reverse jacks (yellow and black wires on the primary red and green terminals), will I be feeding MJ to line 2 of my cordless system? Again, the cordless system is plugged into the same wiring at the opposite end of the apartment - plugged into a normally wired 2-line jack (with line 2 connected to the yellow and black).

If so, will I need to go back to the Telco demarcation block and disconnect their yellow and black wires (coming up from the telephone room in the basement) so that MJ doesn't feed back into the telco system?

FWIW, I plan to use MJ for outgoing long distance calls only. I'm not interested in incoming. I'll continue using my Telco line on line 1 for that.

thanks!

You can sometimes get away with a lot but I would play it safe and disconnect the black/yellow pair from the telco demarcation block. Yes just plugging MJ into one of the reversed jacks then make MJ your second line. BUT you should use a cable from the MJ to one of these reversed jacks which has only the red/green pair active or disconnect the red/green pair from the wall jack to isolate MJ from your telco line 1 again just to be safe.

I hadn't thought about the need to isolate the Telco Line 1 at the jack. I guess I can accomplish that by using a 2-connector cord from the MJ to the wall jack. For that matter, I can probably do the same between the demarcation block and my wiring block (replace the existing 4-connector modular cord with a 2-connector cord).

Thanks!
