trouble with incoming calls

Post by tony1234 »

I have no problem making calls. But, when the phone rings and you answer, there's nothing coming through on either end. And, VM isn't registering after the forth ring. What gives?

If this is a new installation, I would suspect a SIP ALG problem. What kind of router (if any) and modem do you have? Is your modem configured as a router? Did you change any settings to get MJ to work?

If incoming had been working and just stopped, have you tried unplugging the MJ and reinserting it? Rebooting?

If you answer quickly, does the caller continue to hear ringing? If the MJ has been unplugged (for at least ten minutes), do callers get voicemail? If not, what do they hear?

I have a cable modem that usually uses a vonage for phone. I haven't changed anything.

This is a cordless phone and we just plugged it in yesterday after having similar problems with another phone. I've tried unplugging and rebooting. When you pick up, you hear one last ring before dead silence.

I tried unplugging it for 10 minutes, but still no VM, just nothing.

Do you have modem->Vonage box->PC? If not, please explain what router or other network equipment you have. Try rebooting modem and Vonage device, If that doesn't help, do a test with PC connected directly to cable modem (you'll need to reboot the modem for this test, and again when you reconnect it to the Vonage device).

I'm not sure what you mean about the incoming ringing. If you answer a test call on the first ring, does the caller hear two rings, then silence? If you don't answer the call, how many rings does the caller hear?

The caller only hears one ring after a one-ring pick up. The distorted second ring occures on the pick up side. It's like the call is ready to go through and then suddenly is cut off by something. If there's no pick up, the caller hears 4 rings, then nothing. Yes. Modem>Vonage>PC is the regular setup. I just bypassed the vonage. It's still the same.

Mine's working now, too. But, for how long? Those people real need to get a human voice behind their customer service.

I still have no magicjack voicemail. After 4 rings, the incoming caller receives a "goodbye" in a computerized voice and gets cut off!

Could this be there reason?

MJ FAQ
Voicemail servers and software are currently being upgraded to add more robust features. During these upgrades voicemail will not be available. Thank you for your patience.

This MagicCRAP has been a real waste of time for the past three months that I've had it. 90% of my incoming calls do not connect correctly. Either the other person or myself can't hear anything or the audio sounds like you are calling from mars, all broken up like a consistant rhythmic interference. Being an IT professional for many years I am puzzled how a company can release a product that is years from being ready for the general public due to the problematic nature of the product. Not to mention the fact that their "tech support" seems to be some six year old in India who's probably getting $.15 an hour and is less than competent when responding. I have tried everything under the sun to resolve the problem on my end, including working with our local ISP to troubleshoot the problem since I have a business FIOS internet connection. Short of throwing the USB device in the trash I figured it's worth a shot asking people who read this forum. My area code is 703. If anyone out there can give me a logical explanation as to why these problems are occuring I am all ears.

Thanks.

I cut my losses and returned mine today. I'm still in the trial period so hopefully I will get my refund promptly.

I primarily need it for incoming calls - if incoming isn't reliable I can't use it.

Good luck to everyone else, I just couldn't wait this one out.

incoming calls I cant hear the caller magic jack

Post by skydiver »

Hello,

Just installed Magicjack and updated as specified. Running XP updated and Road Runner cable with D-Link WBR-2310 router. Everything seems to work fine for outgoing calls, Voice mail, call forwarding etc. except when a call comes in I can speak to the caller and they can hear me but I can not hear them when they talk. I have opened the UDP range from 5060 through 5070 and 80, 443 TCP and still no difference.
Spoke with several support people on web site and they both were telling me in the end after trying to fix to contact my ISP. I dont think road runner block ports (per guy that used to work for them) and I felt they were putting me off as when I asked them to specifically tell me what to ask my ISP so they could "fix" their stuff I got no reply. Anyone have any ideas as to why everything seems to work BUT incoming calls why I can not hear the callers voice?
By the way I have tried this with two different phones and with 2 different computers. Both were on windows XP and through the wireless connection through the router. I guess I could try wired but dont see this making any difference. The last person I typed with at magicjacks said another update would be available in 24-48 hours and to try that.
Anyone else run into this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
