No voicemail when pc is off

Post by checkers »

I am a new user and the MJ works fine. However it was my understanding when my pc is off and someone calls , my voice mail should pick up. When i try to call my MJ phone from my landline number i hear nothing , like the call never went thru.
I then will get a email as follows:

Dear MagicJack User:

You received a new 0:00 min long voicemail message from ( my landline phone ) in your mailbox. This is message id 1 received on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 12:09:34 PM. To access your voicemail dial your extension and press * key at the welcome prompt.

Thank you.
Magicjack

i never heard my voice mail answer the call, i went on there support chat and they told me they are updating . What does not make sense to me is, when the pc is on and i dont answer my phone, the voice mail does work.

any ideas ????

thank you in advance

Checkers,

Not to be a smart ass but if you want your MJ to do anything you have to have your computer on. MJ is not plugged into any thing but your computer there is no way for it to get any information from the Internet if the computer is off, save some "Black Magic".

This is from there site :

Does my computer need to be on for my voicemail to work?

No, your computer can be off, or your magicJack unplugged, and users can still leave you voicemail.

THis is my problem, the voice mail will not work when pc is off.

So you are saying if someone calls you when your computer is off it will not go to voice mail. Sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. Your computer does not have to be on for people to leave a message on you MJ VM. You should be able to dial it with your land line or any other phone for that matter and get you voice mail.

It maybe they are working on the system and yours is not up yet, but "Soon", soon is MJ speak for God only knows when.

PS - I just tried mine and it works fine computer on or off I get my voice mails recorded and accessible from my cell phone.

PS2 - Some of strange behavior while they are dinking with the system will be peculiar to certain area codes so don't be surprised if mine works at the moment and yours doesn't. And continue to Chat with the Tech Support people it can also be a misconfiguration in your MJ server records.

Checkers, I think persistence is the big secret, I have followed several threads where someone call tech support and on the fifth or sixth time they get lucky and get someone that knows exactly what you are talking about and fixes the problem in five minutes. But remember that five minutes happened four days after they first started calling MJ Tech Support and getting absolutely no help.

MJ Tech Support is kind of like a slot machine... you keep putting in your calls and eventually it comes up with three cherries.

This is the same problem I was having on Black Wednesday (3/12) when MJ was down for many and I tried to access my vm either by my MJ phone or by another phone. Black Wednesday was followed by Apology Thursday where MJ had an announcement that a "few" customers were experiencing difficulties. Perhaps your vm woes will clear up in a day or two.

My head HUrts

Just a follow up to my problem as well as others. I been on chat with support now maybe 5 times, and i have done everything that they suggested, i even went as far to try the MJ on my other 2 pcs at home , just to have the same result. I took it one step further and formatted one of my pc s so to have only the OS on it only ( xpsp2 ).
Well i still have the problem, i can call out with no problem but people on a land line or cell phone cant call in. If my pc is off then they hear nothing not even my voice mail. If my pc is on, i can hear it ring but its dead air on there side. Support says i will get a email from them in 24 - 48 hrs, i wont hold my breath. Its really to bad because the quality on out going calls is crystal clear for me.
I guess all i can do is wait and keep trying there support.
Also so you guys know, Im using a chicago area code of 773. Maybe if enough of us try support we may get lucky and get a fix.
Please respnd here if you or anyone gets some more info.
regards

Things are looking up

Seems my VM is working, I am at work and decided for the heck of it to try my MJ number. My pc is off at home and to my surprise the VM was working. When i get home I will start up my pc and with any luck I will be able to receive calls instead of just being able to call out. I will post and let you know how it went. Once again the area code I am using is 773 out of Chicago.

checkers,

If you can (and I am not saying I could) try being a little patient there is probably nothing you can do from you end to fix any of the Magic Mysteries. Just keep calling Tech Support. While they don't ever seem to fix anything or even know how for that matter they do seem to pass on problems to others and "Magically" after a day or so what ever you complain about seems to start working.

Best of luck get you MJ to work correctly.

checkers,

I think all we did for you was provide moral support, and best of all we may have kept you from taking a ball-peen hammer to your MJ. You don't ever want to spank your MJ at least not in public -
