Must Plug MagicJack into USB

Post by brycsy »

I get the following error message when I start magicJack on my laptop (I started receiving this after returning from a ten day cruise):

"You must plug magicJack into a USB port"

The device is plugged into a USB port and looks to be powered up (i.e., the little blue lights are visible inside the device). I have tried different USB ports to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Hi
It seems to be a common problem with the MJ, particularly if the USB port goes to sleep. Any chance you are using a laptop? Two threads you can search for are (some key words for a search):

"usb sleep"

"must plug magicjack into usb"

You may need to re-format the MJ drives (there are two on the usb adapter), search for "format magicjack".

I think that should solve your symptoms. Good luck.

"You must plug magicJack into a USB port"

I get this message occasionally and the only thing i have to do is to reboot the MJ( pull the dongle out of the USB extension for a few seconds ).
Sometimes, after such a reboot, I have to do a manual start up of MJ from the drive. So far, it has been just a minor inconvenience.
What often happens that everything works fine, except that the image of the dongle does not go away. A restart of MJ from the drive helps the problem.

Yep, I am using a laptop. Each morning I have to turn it back on (it must power itself down overnight).
