Set-up was easy
Running it through my Fujitsu T2010 Tablet over WiFi N to a Dlink DIR-655 router.
I port forwarded the router using these ports TCP 80 & 443 UDP 5060-5070
I then used my bluetooth headset (Jawbone).
Sounds great & crystal clear on both ends. Just as good as my Vonage that I hardwired into the house.
I may run this on a thin client and connect it to the house telephone wiring. (Note: I am disconnected from the telco box already so no power is on the lines).
People who are having problems may need to set-up the port forwarding on their router (or get a better router) But magicjack works well and I have 7 computers on my home network and 3 Vonage lines active while I was using this device.
Also I ordered this last Friday and got it Today(Monday) from FL to OH via USPS (talk about fast!)
So far very impressed

Are you using windows firewall or another software firewall?xlines wrote:I am a newbie to router configurations, "port forwarding", etc., but I just wanted to report that after plugging the usb Gigawear headset that I got on sale at Radioshack into my pc, I am getting much better quality. I wish that I could learn to tweak my router like you guys are doing!

First I just want to say I am still very happy with my magicJack. I have made some changes. I am now running my mJ on a thin client 24/7. Also, I am using a D-Link DGL-4500 router with ALG sip=off and NO port forwarding. Service has been every bit as reliable as my Vonage service(now cancelled and replaced w/ my mJ) and I have my mJ connected throughout my home telephone wires (I disconnected the outside line power from the POTS phone company). Service has been stable and reliable and quality is on par with traditional POTS telephone service.
ISP: AT&T DSL 768kb up / 6mb down
Router: D-Link DGL-4500 (ALG SIP=off)
ADSL Modem: Moto/Netopia 2210-02 (bridged)
Implementation:
- Revised magicJack on a HP T5710 512/512 thin client
- magicJack SIP on iPhone using Siphon & Backgrounder

I've have also been pleased with my MJ. I have a Belkin Pre-N router and didn't have any ports open when I got my MJ. It worked fine, but I have opened ports for ViaTalk since then. If MJ would have had number porting available, I may have skipped ViaTalk, but probably not because of MJ's limited features.
I understand that MJ is going through growing pains and am optimistic. I would, however, like to see them update features a little faster (or maybe ever!). "Soon" seems to mean between now and infinity!

mJ service cost is only $40 for the first year and $20 each subsequent year. ViaTalk is $199 year I would hope ViaTalk would offer more features at $199 per year. For the price there is nothing that can beat mJ:johnatnro wrote:I've have also been pleased with my MJ. I have a Belkin Pre-N router and didn't have any ports open when I got my MJ. * Voicemail - I like it works very well
* 3 way calling on incoming calls
* Caller id
* Call forwarding
* Can change numbers to different area codes first time is free
* Can use a regular phone or soft-phone & headset (wired or bluetooth)
* E911 service with multiple locations
Not a bad feature set for the price.

I haven't tried the call forwarding feature yet or the 3-way calling, features I pay monthly for on my regular land phone. But you're right. Can't beat the price for all these features.sparkbox wrote:mJ service cost is only $40 for the first year and $20 each subsequent year. I've taken my MJ to another location which had a Mac (I own a PC) and a high speed Internet connection, just to see how easy (or not easy) it was. It worked very well, setting up my MJ information and I made a few calls. I deleted the icon from other people's eyes and I'm sure the software is still there but it's a computer I'll use again anyway.
By the way (and I know it's available without the MJ), I've used the 411 feature almost every day of the past two weeks I've had the MJ. So inconvenient and accurate.
