Outbound works, inbound rings a different number
I got my magicjack today. The outbound call works, shows up on the caller id, sounds great. When I try to call the number back, to test incoming calls, it rings another number. They called me back from the number I supposedly called, and it wasn't the number I called. It wasn't even the same area code. Does magicjack actually have rights to the numbers it is giving out?

Which number did it ring at? Same number but different area code? Or a totally different phone number?princewally wrote:I got my magicjack today. Tech chat said they found the problem, but didn't tell me what it was. Said I'd get an update email in 24-48 hours.

LikeMagic,
I agree with you about it being strange, but if you have people writing code, installing code and others remotely changing code as part of their support efforts it doesn't surprise me very much that occasionally they get some ins and outs filled with bogus numbers.
Actually I thing that is what is going on with a lot of the strange stuff you hear people experiencing, and we shovel it of on their Tech Support people that pass it on to their programmers that spend a couple of days scratching their head before they have a Eureka moment and suddenly the poor end user finds his problems have Magically disappeared.
I love using that word "Magic" about as much as I have come to love the word "Soon".

Hello Everyone!
I'm having the same problem, I installed MJ last week and selected a 305 number, and everything was working properly, then I decided to have a 310 number and I changed it, and when I enabled the call forwarding is when everything was a mess...
I'm able to make calls and other people's caller ID get the 310 .number, but when calling back.. they get this msg: "The person at extension 646719899001 is unavailable, please leave a msg after the tone when done hang up or press the # key'... but when I call from my MJ to my MJ number I'm able to listen my voice mail recording msg..
basically:
A) I'm able to make outgoing calls with the 310 number - but not to receive at this number
B) I'm able to receive call to my previous 305 number - but people only see the 310 in their caller ID
C) I contacted support a couple of days ago, and they said my problem was escalated and still haven't receive any response from them.
Do anyone have similar problems?
... any suggestions?
Best!

cybercitoonline,
This type of problem is a MagicJack database/server problem their is no way it can be fixed from your end.
Advice; Keep pestering the hell out of Tech support.

This is NOT an uncommon problem with VOIP in general. Outgoing is easy...when number is assigned, the VIOP company puts the number in their outgoing CO, and people will see that number. BUT, these numbers are recycled from POTS. So, the propagation in the telephone switches across the country (i.e. where that newly assigned number points to), often takes a little time. Not unlike making a DNS change for a domain....can take 48 hours or more to propagate worldwide.
That's what I've found so far with every problem having to do with MJ is that given a little time they go away.-Any new number change will cause problems for a day or two anyway, even with the big landsharks/landline outfits. I'd give it a day or two then start yellin.Prince, if it's not working right in 48 hrs. send this MJ tech support person a detailed email-

O'yea-I got that, but there is alot of people complaining alot lately and to be fair I think the company needs more time to get the kinks worked out. There's a million things that can go wrong with this thing and probably by this time next year there will be very few problems with it. Hope so. I'm hopeful enough to go ahead and pay for 5 years in advance because unless something happens and the company goes under I think the price will go up. Since Dan has millions of his own money tied up in this I don't see him going anywhere. But if he decides to take my 50 bucks and head for the Mexican riviara, well, I probably racked up that much in long distance calls today alone calling around the country to say Happy Easter to people! It's a win/win deal!
